Day-in-the-life on Day Shift

When the sun comes up, you’re on the floor making sure every mold, machine, and auxiliary system is dialed in for peak performance. From first article to final check, you prepare, install, and calibrate molds and tooling for plastic extrusion or injection blow molding machines. You resolve issues fast—tuning temperatures, pressures, timing, parison programming, and blow pin settings—so quality stays high and downtime stays low.

• Perform detailed mold care: clean, polish, and lubricate molds, pins, locking rings, and cores to eliminate flash, plastic build-up, and debris.
• Install, align, and remove molds for production; execute efficient changeovers and swap accessory devices as needed.
• Set up blow molding equipment, including temperature profiles, parison programming, and blow pin adjustments.
• Troubleshoot production concerns such as flash, thin walls, and uneven distribution to minimize quality-related downtime.
• Adjust machine parameters—pressure, timing, and speeds—to meet specification and throughput targets.
• Inspect and weigh finished parts; use precision measuring instruments to verify conformance.
• Complete minor mechanical repairs and perform routine preventive maintenance on tooling and machinery.
• Capture production data, downtime events, and material usage with accuracy.
• Share expertise: coach and train Maintenance and Setup teammates to build capability across the crew.
• Collaborate closely with Maintenance, Production, and Quality to drive uptime and optimize process performance.
• Ensure a thorough end-of-shift handoff to Production and Scheduling; maintain and submit end-of-shift reports.
• Maintain detailed maintenance logs and update asset histories in our CMMS (MaintainX).
• Assist with equipment installs, upgrades, and continuous process improvements.
• Communicate issues clearly and promptly with team members and operations leadership.
• Follow all safety requirements—LOTO, GMP, and PPE—and champion a culture of safety on the floor.

• 3–5+ years in a manufacturing environment working with blow molding machinery.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting ability and skilled use of hand tools.
• Knowledge of plastics and polymers plus hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Comfort reading technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics; keen eye for defects and precision settings.
• Experience with CMMS tools and preventive maintenance planning (MaintainX preferred).
• A proactive, independent approach with strong teamwork skills.
• Physically able to lift molds and perform bending, twisting, and climbing as required.
• Willingness to work overtime when needed.
