What Is the Job of a Glue Clamping Machine Operator?

The job of a glue clamp machine operator is to set up, monitor, operate, and complete routine maintenance on the glue clamping machine with safety and efficiency as top priorities. In this career, you cut and glue products based on customer specifications. Determine if glue is being spread evenly and if glue coating is sufficient to bond stock in product, and adjusts to correct defective gluing. Cleans glue from rollers, using hot water or alcohol and brush. May lubricate machine.

Your responsibilities also include checking final production counts to make sure they match the order. You also clean machines, sweep floors, and rework or salvage projects and assist other colleagues as necessary.

Job Description:

• Layup wood to match order requirements.
• Assist in the production of linear milling by cutting, ripping, and gluing domestic hardwoods.
• Applies glue to surfaces of wooden pieces and clamps them together to form larger pieces or complete units, such as stair treads, panels, and doors; spreads glue on surfaces to be joined, using brush or hand roller, or by drawing wood across roller partially submerged in glue.
• Assembles and aligns pieces, and fastens them together until glue dries, using bar clamps, hand clamps, vise, or radial-arm clamp carrier.
• Presses pedal when using clamp carrier to move racks containing clamped units around frame of device and back to working position.
• Load and unload product from glue clamps.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and carry heavy materials, typically up to 50 pounds, regularly.
• Prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout the workday.
• Frequent bending, stooping, and reaching to handle materials, load machines, and pack products.
• Ability to push and pull carts, pallet jacks, or other equipment loaded with materials.
• Good vision, with or without corrective lenses, to inspect products for quality and read labels or instructions.
• Adequate hearing ability to communicate with team members and hear alarms or safety signals.
• Ability to maintain a steady work pace over long shifts, often in a fast-paced environment.

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma, GED or Equivalent

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
• Attention to detail and the ability to perform repetitive tasks with accuracy.
• Understanding and adherence to safety protocols and procedures.
• Complete work with accuracy and efficiency.
• Willingness to work overtime when required.
• Read a tape measure and caliper.
• Ability to read/write/communicate in English.
• Self-starter who works effectively without close supervision
• It is an essential function of this position that you report to work on a regular basis.
