Job Description

Summary
The Paralegal, Litigation is a member of the Legal Operations & Strategy team, responsible for supporting litigated auto liability and general liability (AL/GL) claims. This role is accountable for insurance coverage support, subpoena response, and discovery coordination on matters handled by outside counsel, and serves as the primary point of coordination between Legal and cross-functional partners. The ideal candidate brings hands-on AL/GL or insurance-defense experience and manages multiple active matters and deadlines independently.

Job Description

Litigation Management

• Manage the day-to-day handling of litigated AL/GL claims from receipt of the lawsuit through resolution, in coordination with outside counsel, internal employees, insurance carriers, and the Safety team.
• Serve as the primary internal liaison to outside counsel on active litigated AL/GL matters, tracking deadlines, budgets, and case status.
• Provide backup support on employment litigation matters as needed.

Insurance Coverage & Claims Support

• Support insurance coverage analysis in partnership with the Claims Manager, including policy review and evaluation of coverage positions.
• Track tenders and reservation-of-rights correspondence and escalate coverage issues to the Vice President of Legal Operations & Outreach.
• Support claims from first notice of loss through resolution in coordination with carriers, Safety, and Workers' Compensation.

Discovery & Records Response

• Receive, log, and respond to subpoenas within required deadlines to ensure responses are complete and compliant.
• Manage discovery in litigation handled by outside counsel, including the collection, review, and organization of documents, data, and witness information responsive to discovery requests.
• Gather and organize evidence, witness statements, and incident documentation in anticipation of or in response to litigation.
• Maintain accurate matter and claims tracking in internal systems, including SharePoint and Salesforce, and produce status reporting for Legal Operations leadership.

Team Collaboration

• Partner with Safety and Workers' Compensation to gather incident reports and coordinate investigations supporting active matters.
• Execute special projects and assignments as requested by the Vice President of Legal Operations & Outreach.
• Promote a business partner and ownership mindset to the team to prioritize customer service excellence, adaptability and resilience to change and continuous improvement.

Qualifications and Experience

• Associate degree in Paralegal Studies or equivalent preferred. Paralegal certificate is a plus.
• 3+ years of experience as a paralegal or legal coordinator handling litigated AL/GL, general liability, or insurance-defense matters.
• Working knowledge of insurance coverage principles, claims handling, and civil litigation processes.
• Demonstrated experience responding to subpoenas and managing discovery in coordination with outside counsel.
• Experience with employment litigation matters, sufficient to serve as backup support in that area.
• Comfortable working cross-functionally with Safety, Workers' Compensation, or Risk Management teams
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with sound judgment, tact, and diplomacy.
• Experience with contract management, sufficient to cross-train as backup support to the Legal Coordinator.
• Experience in trucking, transportation, or logistics industry litigation.
• Experience with a matter management system.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, etc.).
• Experience using or willingness to learn approved AI/LLM and automation tools is a plus.
• Strong ethical and integrity code.
