Job Title: RN - MedSurg/Tele Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Night Shift Hours per Shift: 48 Experience: Minimum of 2 years Med/Surg/Telemetry RN experience required License: Required License as a Registered Nurse Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support) required BCR (Basic Cardiac Rhythm) required (EKG Rhythm exam as part of onboarding) ACLS preferred but not required National certification in Medical-Surgical Nursing preferred but not required Must-Have: Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills for a Level 1 Trauma Hospital Skills required include: Trach care, chest tube management PIV starts Glucomander experience Insulin drips Heparin drips Drips to titrate heart rate but will not titrate BP drips IV insertion and care Central line management Wound care and post-op monitoring Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation Care coordination with the interdisciplinary team Discharge planning and patient education, particularly on renal and fluid management Patient Ratios: RN: 1:4-6 Description: We are seeking a qualified RN specializing in Medical-Surgical/Telemetry. The facility has 637 licensed beds and has achieved Level 1 Trauma designation. It serves as a teaching hospital and has certification as a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center. The unit has 30 beds with a census averaging 30 patients. Patient types include post/pre-cardiac patients and step-down ICU patients. Typical diagnoses include CHF, COPD, STEMI, NSTEMI, sepsis, and similar conditions. Support roles in the department include CNAs for assisting with vital signs, glucose checks, bathing, feeding, and ambulating patients. Nursing staff will collaborate with a charge nurse, resource nurses, and a 24/7 RT and hospitalist team. Telemetry monitoring is available through a central telemetry unit. The electronic medical record used is EPIC. Equipment includes IV pumps, medication dispensing systems, and vital sign monitors. Nurses may float to all med-surg telemetry units within the facility as needed. This position requires a commitment to providing excellent patient care in a busy team-oriented environment.
