Human Resources Generalist

Salary Range: $80,000 - $90,000 annually Position Summary Human Resources Generalist Location: Colton, California Reports To: Chief Executive Officer The Human Resources Generalist serves as the organization's sole HR professional, managing all human resources functions. This role blends strategic oversight with hands‑on execution across all HR disciplines, including recruitment, employee relations, compliance, performance management, payroll coordination, and employee retention. As a key member of the management team, the HR Generalist works closely with program leadership to support staffing needs, onboarding, and employee development, while ensuring compliance with employment laws and fostering a positive, mission‑driven workplace culture. Given the nature of services provided, candidates with experience in the nonprofit and/or social services sector and a demonstrated commitment to serving others are strongly preferred. Key Responsibilities Human Resources Operations Lead all day‑to‑day HR operations and serve as the primary point of contact for all HR‑related matters Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies, procedures, and best practices Compliance & Risk Management Ensure organizational compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations Maintain accurate and confidential employee records and documentation Update and manage the employee handbook Recruitment & Workforce Planning Manage full‑cycle recruitment, including job postings, candidate screening, interviewing, and hiring Collaborate with leadership on workforce planning and staffing strategies Oversee onboarding processes to ensure a smooth employee experience Employee Relations & Performance Management Administer employee relations matters, including conflict resolution and disciplinary processes Support and guide performance management processes, including evaluations and improvement plans Promote a respectful, inclusive, and mission‑aligned workplace culture Benefits & Leave Administration Oversee employee benefits programs and enrollment processes Administer leave of absence programs, including FMLA/CFRA, ADA accommodations, and workers' compensation Payroll & Timekeeping Coordination Coordinate payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and timeliness Review timekeeping records and maintain proper documentation Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience) Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in a standalone or generalist role Knowledge of California employment laws and HR best practices Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism Experience in nonprofit and/or social services environment strongly preferred All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, national origin, age, ancestry, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, marital status, disability, medical condition, genetic information, pregnancy, or military or veteran status.
