Military Treatment Facilities under DHA

About the Position: This position is located at Army Medical Center Madigan, Public Affairs office, Tacoma Washington. The position requires the incumbent to plan, develop, analyze, and evaluate assigned information programs for the Military Treatment Facility (MTF).

Duties

Help

  • Serve as the principal advisor to the Commander and senior leaders on public affairs and communication policy.
  • Conduct research and helps shape plans and policies to ensure public information considerations are fully addressed.
  • Evaluate public opinion trends to align garrison policies with community interests.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with government officials, Congress, civic organizations, media representatives, and other stakeholders.
  • Act as the official spokesperson and primary point of contact for local and national media requiring immediate response.
  • Prepare and coordinate speeches, presentations, and communication materials for general and targeted audiences.
  • Develop and manage social media plans in accordance with policy.
  • Oversee and coordinate the workload of Public Affairs staff and maintains required files at the medical center.

  • This position is required to work uncommon tours of duty hours such as, on-call, weekends and/or holidays.

In order to qualify, you must meet the Experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes developing communication strategies for an organization such as a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF), preparing speeches and informational materials for public dissemination, advising senior leaders on public communication issues, and conducting research to support communication policy development. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS11).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).

Education

Education: Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.

  • You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • This position requires a 1 year probationary period uring which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
