Description of Work The Division of Parks and Recreation is seeking a skilled Vehicle/Equipment Repair Technician III to perform skilled small engine, automotive, and/or heavy equipment repair. Work includes the service, inspection, repair, rebuild and diagnosis of a diverse number of mechanical systems for a variety of gasoline, diesel, and alternative powered engines/equipment. Work ranges from inspection and service to highly complex mechanical systems analysis using advanced diagnostic instruments and software; recurring and non-recurring work such as electrical, suspension, brake system repair, and /or fitting and repairing more complex ancillary and specialized equipment. Conducting parts/systems failure analysis; and the calibration, adjustment and operation of engine analyzers. Routinely determine materials, techniques and tools to accomplish work assignments. Work assignments vary in complexity depending on the type of mechanical system and ancillary components/equipment. Key Responsibilities Use and operate the various machines and instruments commonly found in an automotive and/or heavy equipment repair shop, as well as a variety of specialized equipment specific to the area of assignment. Diagnose and repair various automotive, small engine, and/or heavy equipment systems. Manage on-site inventory including parts, fuel, and lubrication commodities. Supervision of both skilled and unskilled workers, and coordination of work with various contractors and vendors. Candidates meet the minimum qualifications of this position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated experience of the methods, practices, tools and/or material used in the general maintenance and/or repair of vehicles or heavy equipment including inventory of parts, fuel, and lubrication commodities. Demonstrated experience in advanced vehicle routine maintenance and/or problem diagnosis. Demonstrated experience in the repair of vehicles and/or heavy equipment. Demonstrated experience in the operation and/or care of small engine types of grounds keeping equipment such as lawn mowers, tractors or chainsaws. Position/Physical Requirements Typical work schedule is Monday - Friday 7:30am -4:30pm. Must be available to work after hours, holidays and weekends when necessary. Must be available to work park emergencies and conferences. Travel days occasionally exceed eight hours in length. Physical strength sufficient to move relatively heavy objects (up to 100 pounds) and to perform heavy manual tasks for considerable periods of time with or without a reasonable accommodation. Must have a valid driver's license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment. Within 12-24 months of hire date, must have the ability to obtain: Valid Class C driver's license. Maintain a CDL Class A license within 1 year of hire. Maintain CPR Certification within 1 year of hire. Obtain Division Sponsored Chainsaw Operator within 2 years of hire. A sign-on bonus of $1000 is being offered for eligible candidates.
