Shipping Clerk

Job Title

Summary: Responsible for monitoring each shipment to make sure that outgoing packages are packed correctly and accurately, maintaining shipping records, preparing invoices, and computing freight costs by performing the following duties.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Verifies accuracy of orders by matching them with quantities and types.
• Ensures that serial and batch numbers match the product.
• Reports and replaces any defective item prior to packaging.
• Estimates weight and uses the information to calculate the cost of shipping.
• Prepares invoices and delivery orders.
• Determines method of shipment by utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, rates, and routes.
• Ensures that all transactions are recorded in company database.
• Ensures posting of outbound deliveries using pre-designated software.
• Processes customers' orders by ensuring that the right shipment is on its way.
• Prepares and pastes labels on shipments.
• Ensures that items are properly packed and labeled.
• Handles outgoing shipments by checking them physically.
• Keeps and verifies records on outgoing shipments.
• Makes sure that items are loaded onto shipment vehicle in safe and timely manner.
• Maintains shipping database, prepares routine reports, and files shipping records.
• Traces lost shipments and/or customer claims of lost shipments and initiates proof of delivery documents.
• Prepares and packages material design to be shipped on pallets for freight shipments.
• Working close with the Accounting Department to determine and address all questions related to international shipments for example: broker house, handling and shipping fees, duty cost etc.
• Maintains and organizes adequate shipping supplies.
• Keeps work station and area clean.
• Assists in other areas as needed and performs other duties as assigned.
• Works closely with the carriers on shipping procedures and processes.

Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Work Environment

• Lift up to 50lbs.
• Must be in good physical shape to endure frequent bending, lifting and stretching.
• Occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
• Required to stand 75% of work hours.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus, and ability to see color.
