Public Safety Officer

Location: St. Joseph Medical Center – Kansas City , MO

We are seeking a Public Safety Officer, sometimes referred to as a Hospital Security Officer or Healthcare Security Officer . The Public Safety Officer will p erform a range of security duties including electronic surveillance and routine manual patrols to ensure the safety of the facility. The Public Safety Officer will c oordinate responses to incidents involving patients, staff, and visitors while enforcing policies and procedures fairly and consistently. The Public Safety Officer will c ollaborate with the Environment of Care Committee to support a multidisciplinary approach to safety and security at our hospital . This position is on a per diem basis, meaning PD/ PRN as needed.

Responsibilities

• Access Control and Patrols: m onitor entrances, exits, and restricted areas; conduct regular interior and exterior patrols to deter theft, violence, or unsafe behavior

• Emergency Response: r espond to emergency codes and assist with crowd control, evacuation, or containment as needed

• De-escalation and Conflict Management : i ntervene in disruptive situations using de-escalation techniques to calm agitated patients or visitors, often in collaboration with clinical staff

• Patient and Visitor Assistance: e scort patients or visitors safely through the facility, provide directions, and assist with lost-and-found or personal property issues

• Incident Documentation: w rite detailed reports on incidents, accidents, or safety hazards and report findings to supervisors or risk management

Qualifications

1. Experience in Healthcare security or related field preferred 2. State Guard Certification Registration Card 3. High School Diploma or Equivalent required.

Facility Specific Requirements (facility may require items listed below):

1. State Driver’s license upon hire 2. Current DMV H6 report or Driving History Report
