Supervisor

PORTCO, Inc is a non-stock, non-profit, 501(C) (3) corporation located in Suffolk, Virginia. PORTCO was founded in 1991 as an Employment Service Organization to provide transitional, supported employment and vocational services to individuals with disabilities who could not otherwise find and maintain competitive employment on their own. Responsibilities Assist in ensuring janitorial/cleaning duties are completed in accordance with established contracts. Coordinate information concerning inspections, maintenance of equipment, documentation and training. Supervise a work crew and perform contractual janitorial duties as necessary (working supervisor position). Oversee in‑house services such as cleaning, maintenance/repair and other assigned services. Inspect work performed to ensure it meets specifications and established standards. Instruct and train employees in work policies, procedures, equipment use, maintenance, health and safety procedures and other relevant trainings. Assist in preparing employee work schedules and inventory stock to ensure supplies and equipment are available in adequate amounts. Prepare activity and personnel reports and maintain required records of work hours, payroll, work performed, time studies and other information. Participate in staff training and development activities; attend all mandatory meetings. Perform and assist with cleaning duties as necessary. Oversee and assist with the vocational needs of employees with varying disabilities. May be needed on occasion to supervise weekend projects at the site (floor care, snow removal, etc.). Requirements Any combination of training, experience or education that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. At least one year experience in commercial janitorial services with increasing responsibility is preferred. Physical Demands The employee must frequently stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear. The employee frequently lifts and/or moves up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Work Environment The employee is frequently exposed to weather conditions. The noise level may range from low to high, dependent upon the work site.
