Our company is looking for a Payroll Accountant to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Generate payroll data reports for various audits (worker’s compensation, internal/external audits, and finance/accounting);
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly compensation reports;
  • Reconcile weekly and semi monthly payroll tax liabilities, payroll deductions (401k, HSA);
  • Manage multi-state payroll tax issues/research and resolve tax notices;
  • Responsible for all union weekly/monthly/quarterly payroll filings;
  • Process of payroll, commissions and bonus payments;
  • Reconcile funds of general bank account;
  • Ensure that payroll reports are accurate and timely filed with appropriate governmental authorities (i.e. tax filings);
  • Enter all salary changes, deductions and other payroll information for student payroll;
  • Works independently and receives limited supervision from the controller;
  • File backup for monthly, biweekly and student payrolls;
  • Ensure that all transactions regarding payroll data are accurate and entered into computer records;
  • Post summary payroll and withholding data to ledgers; prepare checks for distribution to employees; transfer automatic payroll deposits;
  • Ensure that payroll data for new employees are properly recorded including: name,address, rate of pay, and withholding information;
  • For the monthly payrolls, enter any additional pay into the computer.

Requirements:

  • SOX compliance knowledge;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting;
  • Multi entity experience;
  • Great computational ability;
  • High school graduation required; Associate degree preferred; additional accounting training at the college level very desirable;
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel;
  • Attention to detail;
  • A valid national certification (e.g. Fundamental Payroll Certification);
  • Must have a working knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles;
  • Should be able to work accurately with little supervision;
  • Understanding local and governmental rules about payroll;
  • Previous experience as a payroll accountant or in a similar role;
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or relevant field.
