The Senior Claims Adjuster examines claim forms and other records to determine coverage. Denies, settles, or authorizes payments to more complex property/casualty claims based on coverage, appraisal, and verifiable damage. Being a Senior Claims Adjuster conducts field investigations to inspect and document damage or loss. Responsible for corresponding with policyholders, claimants, witnesses, attorneys, etc. to gather important information to support contested. In addition, Senior Claims Adjuster prepares report of findings of an investigation. May require a bachelor’s degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Being a Senior Claims Adjuster contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Working as a Senior Claims Adjuster typically requires 4 to 7 years of related experience.

Our company is looking for a Senior Claims Adjuster to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Interviews, telephones, and corresponds with insureds and other parties;
  • Approves and adjusts estimates of damage and loss amounts;
  • Effectively handles difficult calls from customers, attorneys, public adjusters, vendors, and others;
  • Prepares report of findings and negotiates settlement;
  • Estimates cost of repair, replacement, or compensation;
  • Determines insurance coverage;
  • Identifies and communicates potential underwriting concerns;
  • Writes clear and concise diary notes, uses the Special Handling area, sets field assignments, sets and saves contacts, and makes payments;
  • Appropriately applies knowledge of multiple state statutes, including the insurance code of ethics, rules, regulations and guidelines;
  • Sets appropriate case reserves; revises case reserves in assigned files to cover probable costs;
  • Manages diaries and tasks in the Claims System;
  • Determines whether a file has a valid Assignment of Benefits and handles accordingly;
  • Assists with or leads technical interviews to assist various claims leaders in their candidate selection process;
  • Determines extent of company’s liability;
  • Recognizes the need for SIU involvement a nd identifies files for potential subrogation.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrates active listening skills through effective use of questions, reflection, and empathy;
  • Possesses strong English vocabulary, basic grammar skills, and professional decorum. Writing is clear and easy-to-read. Bi-lingual skills helpful;
  • Experience preparing repair estimates in Xactimate (or another software package) and interpreting estimates using unit pricing;
  • Basic knowledge of residential construction, roofing, and repair techniques strongly preferred;
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts, 7 days per week with 12-hour shifts for major catastrophes, and overtime as needed for claim spikes;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word required. Proficiency in Excel preferred;
  • Possesses strengths in negotiation;
  • Demonstrates a bias toward exceptional customer service; experience providing customer service preferred;
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment;
  • Adjuster 620 License required.
