Lead Platform Engineer Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Lead Platform Engineer to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership on critical incidents as needed;
- Build strong partnerships with technical dependency teams;
- Light project management;
- Verification of the on-going functionality of GSFC systems and applications (KTLO);
- Mentoring other platform engineers in OS, networking, IT operations;
- Expert-level technical hands-on work;
- Technical architecture;
- Tracking and driving to completion all of the platform focus group’s deliverables;
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- typical layer 3 and 4 protocols associated with IP;
- Ethernet;
- 5-10+ years experience in application care: admin, patching, vendor support interactions, etc;

- application layer protocol knowledge;
- Experience with virtualization (ie. VMWare) and containerization (ie. docker);
- Experience with infrastructure monitoring, backup solutions and strategies;
- Working knowledge in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Windows and Linux server environments;
- stateful inspection firewalls;
- 5-10+ years experience caring for operating systems;
- Switching and Routing;
- IPv4/IPv6;
- Experience writing and working with automation scripts (bash, python, etc.);
- 5+ years experience in network fundamentals mastery: OSI/DoD network models;
- Bachelors and/or Masters Degree or equivalent experience in Information Security, Engineering, Computers Science, or related field.
