Line Cook Job Description

Line Cook follows a menu to prepare and cook meats, fish, poultry, gravies, cereals, soups, vegetables and other food according to proper preparation methods. May require a high school diploma or its equivalent. Being a Line Cook typically reports to a Sous Chef or Executive Chef. The Line Cook has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. Works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. To be a Line Cook typically requires 3-5 years of related experience, or may have 2 years experience plus an associates degree, or additional training or certification.

Responsibilities:

  • Follow all recipes and practice portion control to prepare, garnish, and present ordered items;
  • Cooking order according to food health and safety standards;
  • Follow recipes and presentation specifications;
  • Cook dishes to business standards;
  • Give prompt and courteous response to guest and supervisor requests;
  • Cooking menu items in cooperation with the rest of the kitchen staff and to guest satisfaction;
  • Stock/restock items on line according to specifications;
  • Chop vegetables, cut meat, prepare sauces and other food preparation;
  • Cook menu items in cooperation with restaurant standards;
  • Tastes all food prepared for station to ensure flavor, freshness and quality;
  • Must have strong time management skills;
  • aMaintain a clean work area in an open kitchen;
  • Respond to verbal requests from other kitchen staff members in a timely and professional manner;
  • Preparing food to order according to recipe, procedures, quality and speed levels;
  • Chop vegetables, prepare sauces and mixes, season meats, and other food preparation.

Requirements:

  • Must pass background check;
  • Able to quickly memorize complex or multiple orders;
  • Stands during entire shift;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • 3-5 years Cooking experience in fast-paced restaurants;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Cooperative spirit;
  • Ability to prepare 5+ food orders at a time, consistently for long durations, while maintaining our Company food quality standards;
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs. as needed;
  • Ability to work positively in a fast-paced environment;
  • Able to follow recipes;
  • Grill experience or Back of the House experience preferred;
  • No prior experience required;
  • Solid restaurant cooking experience;
  • Cooking experience not required awesome work ethic is.
