Our company is looking for a Fiber Optic Technician to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform other related duties as required;
  • Ability to read, understand and update splice documentation and maps as required;
  • Be available for 7 day / 24 hour stand by periods every 2 weeks;
  • Ability to troubleshoot damaged fiber, effectively and efficiently;
  • Proficient in using fiber tools and fiber optic test equipment including fusion splicer, power meter and OTDR;
  • Climb and use ladders on poles for accessing aerial fiber plant;
  • Ability to travel and stay overnight within the coverage area;
  • Basic computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel;
  • Terminate, splice, and install a variety of fiber optic connectors and enclosures including both loose tube fiber and ribbon fiber;
  • Knowledge of applicable electronic equipment and specialty tools.

Requirements:

  • Job related certifications such as safety, fiber training and experience with various manufacturers;
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces;
  • Computer and Microsoft Office proficiency;
  • Must understand fiber optic signal flow; bi-directional, uni-directional or null;
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license;
  • Ability to read, comprehend and carry out instructions;
  • Must be able to read, comprehend and interpret site plans, construction drawings and scopes of work;
  • Travel to work sites 75-80% of the time;
  • Strong interpersonal communication (verbal and written) and organizational skills;
  • Must be able to create materials list based on plans/scope of work, order and compile materials for crew in advance of deployment;
  • Must be in good physical condition with the ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat and lift 75 lbs;
  • Position requires working outdoors in all types of weather;
  • Ability to motivate, lead, teach and train on proper work and safety procedures;
  • Thorough understanding of the local permitting process and requirements for all work activities requiring permits, including traffic control;
  • Industrial First Aid and CPR certifications and experience.
