Plant Controller Job Description

Plant Controller establishes and maintains the plant’s financial principles, practices, procedures, and initiatives. Oversees the maintenance of fiscal records and preparation of financial reports. Being a Plant Controller analyzes and interprets cost, budget, policies and profit opportunity trends and presents findings and recommendations to top management. Establishes procedures and internal controls to ensure compliance with all relevant government and industry legislation and regulations. Additionally, Plant Controller typically reports to a CFO or top management. Requires CPA. Requires bachelor’s degree. The Plant Controller manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Plant Controller typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.

Our company is looking for a Plant Controller to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Other duties as assigned;
  • Maintains fixed asset register and processes related journal entries;
  • Responsible for the plant Operational finance and accounting team;
  • Implement and monitor the month, quarter and year-end closeout accounting schedules;
  • Assist Director of Finance with division-based projects and provide reporting support as required;
  • Oversee the SAP workflows;
  • Analyze plant labor, scrap, operational spending and inventory transactions for optimal manufacturing levels;
  • Prepare all appropriate general ledger entries and monthly reconciliations;
  • Internal/external audit requirement, ensuring internal controls are established and followed;
  • Capital project preparation, project accounting, post project follow-up and review;
  • Assist in month end closing, prepare journal entries as necessary, and analyze inventory valuation and inventory roll forward;
  • Preparation of daily/weekly/monthly plant performance reports;
  • Maintain accurate inventory records at the plant storage facilities as well as third party warehouses;
  • Inventory Control, including obsolescence monitoring & inventory turn analysis;
  • Prepares reports required by regulatory agencies.

Requirements:

  • Possess a solid understanding of all of the financial and operating aspects/measurements of the manufacturing areas of responsibility;
  • Experience in SAP Program helpful but not necessary;
  • Budgeting Experience;
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work closely with a team of professionals inside and outside of accounting/finance;
  • Proactive, hands-on, results oriented style;
  • Undergraduate business degree in accounting or finance required;
  • Experience with NetSuite, or other ERP system is preferred;
  • Some travel is required (up to 30%);
  • Strong leader with an ability to develop others on the team;
  • Minimum five years’ experience in general ledger and accounting reconciliation activities, with proven ability & experience in month end closing;
  • Strong analytical and written / verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills. Strong attention to detail with consistent accuracy;
  • Strong decision making and problem solving skills with practical judgment and realistic understanding of the issues involved;
  • Bachelor’s degree with major in accounting; advanced degrees or certification a plus;
  • Do have experience in manufacturing? We prefer experience in food, chemical or Pharmaceutical industry but it is not required;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
