Bakery Clerk Job Description

Bakery Clerk responds and attends to customer requests in the bakery department within a grocery store. Responsible for various duties including preparing baked goods and other items for sale, arranging and wrapping bakery products, and placing bakery items in display cases. Being a Bakery Clerk may operate machines such as bread slicers. Has knowledge of proper food handling procedures. Additionally, Bakery Clerk may require a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Bakery Clerk possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. May require 0-1 year of general work experience.

Our company is looking for a Bakery Clerk to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Any unsafe working conditions must be reported to the supervisor on duty immediately;
  • Responsible for performing their work in a safe and ergonomically correct manner;
  • Bakery clerks should make sure the customer gets exactly what they want (show customer types of cakes, etc.);
  • Skillfully selling product by providing customers with accurate information, sampling product and communicating promotional sales;
  • Excellent communication skills to promote the baked goods;
  • Operate fryers, ovens, proofers, bread slicer, wrappers, scales & other equipment safety;
  • Must be at least 18 years of age;
  • Must be able to determine quantity and weight;
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize;
  • Accepting & preparing special orders;
  • Inventory stocking including moving items from bulk pallets into storage rooms, coolers & freezers;
  • Filling, maintaining, rotating products & ingredients and cleaning displays;
  • Basic understanding of the English language, which includes the ability to communicate and read basic instructions, schedules and signage;
  • A positive attitude is essential;
  • Maintaining Heebs high standards for product quality, freshness and sanitation.

Requirements:

  • Ability to handle stressful situations;
  • Current food handlers permit once employed;
  • Must be able to meet the minimum physical demands of the position;
  • Must be 18 or older;
  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with guests and all personnel;
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks without direct supervision in a timely manner;
  • Reporting any shortages and spoiled or damaged product to the Bakery Department Manager;
  • Ability to receive feedback and implement processes for improvement;
  • Ability to follow directions from the Bakery Department Manager;
  • Ability to prioritize tasks based on customer and business needs;
  • Knowledge of basic math;
  • able to deliver friendly, courteous, prompt customer service;
  • able to interpret, understand and follow instructions and solve problems;
  • able to work in coolers & freezers;
  • able to be on your feet for long periods of times.
