POSITION SUMMARY

The Community Engagement Coordinator works within the Development Department but supports all areas of Kelberman by fostering and nurturing relationships with families. This role will help to guide families through the process of determining what services and supports are best for each person and their family. This position acts as a liaison between the family, care manager, and the Kelberman team. This might include assisting with tours, fast tracking the required document gathering while focusing on what is most important to the person who will be supported. This position shares information and resources with families and helps to foster awareness about Autism and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. This position will also be responsible for explaining the variety of options available at Kelberman which include all stages of a person's life. The Community Engagement Coordinator has excellent organizational, communication, and written skills but also the ability to foster positive relationships with both individuals and organizations. This position is one of the principal ambassadors for the center often speaking internally and publicly delivering Kelberman's message, vision, and mission.

Position Requirements

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Role responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Respond to inquiries from families and community members about the services and supports provided by Kelberman.
Work with families to educate, explore, and experience through visits and tours of all Kelberman programs that people may be interested in.
Work with families to understand and identify the goals and areas of support that are desired.
Assist the family in gathering all required documentation to ensure eligibility of OPWDD services.
Provide information on Care Coordination Organizations (CCO's) to families and explain the OPWDD eligibility process as necessary and appropriate.
Make Referrals to Care Coordination Organizations and/or OPWDD Front Door as necessary.
Seek answers/solutions for families when barriers to services present themselves.
Work with area schools on transition planning as students age out and plan for the next phase of their life (College, internships, apprenticeships, or future employment).
Support all community awareness events such as: The Walk for Autism and the Pedal for Autism.
Assist in large community events that showcase Kelberman such as: Autism Acceptance Night at the BlueSox and other events.
Assist with community wellness fairs and other community partnership events representing Kelberman.
Assist Families through the intake process to the programs/services selected and follow-up to ensure satisfaction with supports on a regular basis which gradually tapers off and picks up based on families needed changes.
Develop new partnerships in the community to increase participation and sponsorships at the center.
Assist in media and promotion of events and programs to provide increased visibility for the center.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with key constituencies including board members, donors, families, and other internal and external partners.
Ensure compliance with all pertinent government and Center regulations and operating standards.

Establish a work environment that creates positive communication between supervisors and employees and assimilates new employees and families to Kelberman's culture, values and mission.
Participate in activities as part of the team that may include meetings, trainings, and committees.
All other duties as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's Degree preferred but not required.
One (1) to three (3) years' experience in care management and/or supporting people with developmental disabilities preferred but not required.

While this position is hybrid, travel and transport are required. Must have a valid NYS Driver's License and require reliable transportation.
This position has regular and substantial unsupervised or unrestricted physical contact with individuals receiving services and is required by law to be fingerprinted for a criminal history record check under OPWDD (Office for People with Developmental Disabilities)

An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Certain deadlines and unanticipated developments may require work during early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
Ability to quickly address any emergent issues without losing focus on the task at hand.
Job related tasks may involve possible exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue or spills or splashes from these substances. May have exposure to unpredictable individuals and situations when working at Kelberman sites.
OSHA exposure category I.
The employee frequently is required to stand, walk and sit. Must be able remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
Must be able to bend, twist, reach.
Must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Compensation: $60,000 - $65,000, annually
