About Our Staff Accountant I Role:

Staff Accountants work within the Accounting Department and are responsible for monitoring and collecting data to assess accuracy and integrity; analyze data; ensure compliance with applicable standards, rules, regulations, and systems of internal control; interpret and evaluate results; prepare documentation; create financial reports; and applying the generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) that includes analytical work and thorough review of financial records. Additionally, the incumbent is also responsible for keeping Company financial data organized/updated, completing basic accounting-related tasks like maintaining records, preparing financial statements, financial reporting, budget preparation, and general bookkeeping for the Company.

Strategic Responsibilities:

• Fully understand and share a passion for the Company's core values, mission, and objectives.
• Provide leadership and management to ensure that the mission and core values of the Company are put into practice.
• Support the Controller in providing strategic recommendations to the members of the executive management team.
• Promote the day-to-day implementation of strategic business plans within the Accounting Department at the direction of the Controller and CFO.
• Partner with the Controller to implement and promote financial and tax strategies.

Other Duties/Responsibilities:

• Provide support to other Staff Accountants and other departmental staff
• Compile documents, data, and information needed for basic accounting-related tasks
• Maintain and update accounting records and files
• Maintain relationships with external vendors, clients, and banking institutions
• Perform other duties as required by circumstances or assigned by the Assistant Controller, Controller, or CFO
• Create periodic reports, such as balance sheets, profit & loss statements, etc.
• Accurately perform daily reconciliations of cash, check, and credit card transactions, and tally and file invoices.
• Assist with the financial operations of subsidiary companies
• Comply with all Company, local, state, and federal accounting and financial regulations – partnering with departmental staff as needed to ensure an accurate understanding
• Comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) for financial statements
• Present data to managers
• Assist with the financial operations of foreign operations
• Assist in the preparation of taxes
• Assisting with the preparation and monitoring of budgets
• Perform general accounts analysis and reconciliations, including bank statement, fixed assets employer's benefit costs, accruals and prepaid expenses.
• Perform the processing and recording of accounts payable transactions ensuring that staff reimbursements are paid accurately and in accordance with Company policy
• Prepare documents for audits
• Apply accounting policies and ensure compliance with rules and regulations
• Ensure that recordkeeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies
• Endeavor to stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and trends in the accounting and finance fields
• Analyze, investigate, and report cost variances
• Coordinate accounting functions and programs, contributing to the development of new or amended accounting systems, programs, and procedures
• Partner with the Assistant Controller and work to improve financial processes
• Preparing financial analysis and reports
• Preparing revenue projections and forecasting expenditure
• Maintaining and reconciling balance sheet and general ledger accounts
• Assisting with annual audit preparations
• Investigate and resolve audit findings, account discrepancies, and issues of non-compliance
• Preparing federal, state, local, and special tax returns
• Examine tax policies and handle tax payments and returns
• Performing other accounting duties and supporting junior staff as required or assigned
• Update foreign currencies with new rates monthly and reconcile currencies quarterly
• Conduct month-end and year-end closures
• Review data and consult with the Assistant Controller, as needed, about discrepancies or problems
• Managing aspects of the general ledger
• Train departmental staff on operational best practices and modeling reliable control systems at all times
• Be willing to take on any special projects or assignments as assigned by the Assistant Controller, Controller, or CFO

Some of the Things We're Looking For:

Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance; or equivalent hands-on experience in performing high-level Construction related Accounting.
5 plus years in a supervisory, managerial, or financial/accounting leadership role.
Proven experience in strong team building, developing strategies, streamlining processes, and implementing plans to solve problems and mitigate risk.
Proficient with accounting software, word processing, and spreadsheets.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft 365 products, utilizing a PC, mobile devices, and company communication tools (e.g., email, internet, chat, etc.)
Solid GAAP and financial reporting technical skills.
Must be able to receive instruction and supervision.

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, with overtime as required

Physical Requirements:

The ability to remain in a stationary position, often sitting for prolonged periods.
Manual dexterity needed to operate a computer and other office equipment.
Occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.

Work Environment:

Primarily based in an office setting with a controlled climate.
