Summary:

The Office of Residential Life seeks two (2) Area Coordinators to join their fun, motivated, mission-driven, and service-oriented team! To support and enhance the mission of the Office of Residential Life & Explorations, the Area Coordinator will be responsible for creating and maintaining a comprehensive residential environment that is academically and socially stimulating for the holistic development of students. The Area Coordinator will directly supervise 10-14 Resident Assistants, including 1-2 Senior Resident Assistant(s), and will oversee a residential area with approximately 300 - 500 residents.

The Area Coordinator will also oversee a Collateral Area in the department. In addition, this position requires significant interaction and collaboration with many college partners. Reporting to either the Assistant or Associate Director of Residential Life & Explorations, the Area Coordinator will also fulfill on-call responsibilities on a rotating basis.

Primary Responsibilities:

Supervision:
- Supervise 10-14 Resident Assistants, including 1-2 Senior Resident Assistant(s).
- Assist with the recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation of Resident Assistants.
- Develop meaningful working relationships with Resident Assistants by conducting regular one-on-one meetings and staff meetings.
- Inclusion, and Belonging by operationalizing and executing social justice initiatives.
Community/Student Leadership Development:
- Coordinate an assigned area's community development plan, including executing the appropriate programming model, and supporting department wide programming efforts.
- Facilitate training sessions, staff development activities, and ongoing professional development for Resident Assistants.
- Advocate for the resident's needs by establishing an active presence in the community.
- Work collaboratively with Facilities and Campus Safety to create a safe environment conducive to learning.
- Advise and recruit Hall Council members with the assistance of the Senior Resident Assistant.
- Demonstrate a commitment to Rollins College's institutional goals surrounding Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging by operationalizing and executing social justice initiatives.
Conduct and Crisis Management:
- Responsible for understanding and upholding the Code of Community Standards and the Guide to Residence Hall Living in a developmental manner.
- Opportunities to adjudicate low-level residential conduct cases.
- Serve in an on-call duty rotation supporting residential students.
- Respond to crises including but not limited to facilities related emergencies, medical emergencies, mental health emergencies, and behavioral concerns.
Administrative and Departmental Responsibilities:
- Responsible for a collateral functional area of the department including but not limited to: Housing Administration, Communications, Training and Selection, and Curriculum.
- Coordinate department processes within assigned areas, including hall openings and closings, life and safety inspections, damage billing, and room switches.
- Attend all department and division wide meetings.
- Maintain clear, and consistent communication with department and campus partners on a variety of topics, ensuring a timely response to concerns, exceptional support of students, and a commitment to the college, division, and department missions.
- Manage a budget used for programming and student staff development within their assigned area
Professional Development:
- Create an annual professional development plan and goals with the assistance of the supervisor.
- Participate in staff training and development opportunities offered by Residential Life and Explorations and other campus departments.
- Be an engaged member of the profession by being aware of current trends and best practices in Student Affairs and Higher Education.
- Be involved in regional and national professional organizations and, when possible, attend local, regional, and/or national conferences.

Minimum

Qualifications & Education:

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university or college by the time of employment.
Relevant experience in a defined leadership role in one or more of the following: residence life, student activities and organizations, orientation and first-year programs, and commitment to work in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.
Demonstrate an understanding of the issues related to residential living.
Strong attention to detail and well-developed organizational skills.

Preferred

Qualifications:

Master's Degree in student personnel, educational leadership, counseling, or a related field.
Knowledge about and/or experience in a small, residential, liberal arts college.
Live-in residential experience as a Graduate Assistant or Professional Staff.
Working with a Residential Curriculum, staff supervision, training, advising students and student groups.
Experience working through crisis intervention and management, and conflict resolution.
Event planning, written and oral communication, and budget management.
Residence hall administration, cohort housing communities, and assessment.

Work Environment:

Campus-based, front-facing customer service position, and working in an office environment.
Work requires visual strain and the use of a computer.
Fast-paced team environment requiring an ability to multitask.
Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as required.
Must be able to traverse stairs and travel between multiple buildings as part of duties.
