The University of Pikeville seeks an experienced, visionary leader to serve as its Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs (ADCA) in the Tanner College of Dental Medicine (TCDM). The Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs is the chief clinical officer of the Tanner College of Dental Medicine providing leadership, strategic direction, oversight and management of all college clinics. The ADCA works closely with the University of Pikeville Administration, TCDM Dean, Chief Financial Officer, dental vendors and contractors to create and oversee student dental clinics and the pre-clinical simulation laboratory. The ADCA assembles a team and creates policies to ensure quality assurance, patient satisfaction, safety and compliance with regulations related to the college's clinical facilities and clinical operations. In addition, the ADCA works with state agencies such as the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services (Department of Medicaid Services) to ensure appropriate credentialing of faculty and reimbursement for services.

This role requires an innovative, collaborative and mission-minded leader who will work with Federally Qualified Health Clinics and other community partners to provide clinical education sites for dental students. The ADCA maintains oversight of on and off campus clinical locations and ensures compliance, safety and quality assurance in these locations.

The ADCA works closely with the TCDM Dean and the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs to revise the pre-clinical and clinical curricula as needed. The ADCA works closely with college leaders, faculty, and staff to ensure accreditation and ongoing compliance with accreditation standards.

Responsibilities:

* Work collaboratively with college leaders, vendors, contractors and consultants to develop the pre-clinical simulation laboratory and student dental clinics at locations on and off-campus of the University of Pikeville.

* Assist Dean in developing patient care missions of the College and ensure the patient care missions are accomplished.

* Provide leadership, strategic direction, oversight and management of all college clinics to ensure clinical excellence.

* Work with the Dean and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs to prepare for accreditation of the TCDM by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).

* Work with the Dean and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs to ensure continued accreditation of the TCDM by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).

* Recruit and manage the retention of key personnel for clinical and pre-clinical operations and teaching.

* Assemble a team and provide oversight to ensure quality assurance, patient satisfaction, safety and compliance with regulations related to the college's clinical facilities and clinical operations.

* Assemble a team to create and implement an electronic health record system and provide oversight of this team and system.

* Work with the billing office on matters of insurance and billing to ensure compliance with related state and federal regulations including negotiating reimbursement rates with insurers.

* Assemble a team and provide high level oversight to ensure appropriate maintenance of facilities and equipment.

* Develop collaborative relationships with Federally Qualified Health Centers and other community partners to provide clinical education sites for dental students.

* Maintain oversight of clinical operations at off-campus clinics to include calibration and training of off-campus clinical faculty.

* Assist with hiring clinical and pre-clinical faculty.

* Ensure credentialing of clinical faculty.

* Provide preclinical, clinical or didactic instruction consistent with area of expertise.

* Support innovative clinical research in ways that will advance science, dentistry and overall health.

* Maintain a positive representation of the College within the University of Pikeville enterprise and beyond.

Preferred Qualifications:

The successful candidate for this position must be prepared and ready to accept the challenge of being a clinical leader, experienced administrator, collaborator, and partner. Therefore, the successful candidate must hold a D.M.D., D.D.S. or equivalent and have a proven record of academic leadership and experience in developing and managing clinical dental operations. In addition, it is preferred that the Associate Dean of Clinic Affairs possesses:

* Demonstrated success in leading clinical operations at an academic institution.

* Experience in strategic planning.

* Experience with the Commission on Dental Accreditation standards and accreditation process.

* Commitment to quality in the delivery of clinical programs.

* Proven ability to recruit, retain and foster the professional careers of faculty and staff.

* Capacity to actively engage as well as listen to and understand the needs of faculty, staff, patients and students.

* Intellectual vision, high levels of energy, collaborative spirit, mission-minded, and impeccable integrity.

* Collaborative and respectful approach toward other college leaders, faculty and community partners.

* The desire to improve the oral health of the state of Kentucky and beyond, especially among underserved and vulnerable populations.

Relationships:

This position requires daily contact with co-workers, student workers, supervisor, college and university personnel, and students. These relationships are maintained through email, Zoom/Teams meetings, telephone, written, and person-to-person contact.

Responsibility for Final Decisions:

Tasks involve interpretation of data and/or procedures to address problems or situations that are not clearly defined. Tasks may require the development of techniques, formulation of concepts, and developing solutions to unique issues. Tasks also involve management of programs, work units, and/or responsibility for analysis of major organizational programs and/or major problems. Work involves non-routine/diverse work not defined by procedures. It may involve developing, implementing, and interpreting policy in order to fulfill problem resolutions. Work may involve formulating policies and procedures which have significant impact on administration, budget, decisions, and long-term policy.

Reports to: The Dean

Work is performed independently, and the employee assumes direct accountability for work and independently resolves all associated problems except where final approval is required.

Education/Skill Requirements:

* Must have the credentials to receive a faculty appointment at the College.

* Demonstrate leadership and administrative experience, abilities and qualities to manage clinical dental programs at an academic institution.

* Continue to develop professionally and personally to grow their own leadership abilities.

* A minimum of three years leadership experience as an academic program leader.

* Experience managing budgets and personnel.

* Ability to communicate and develop relationships/partnerships within the University and surrounding community.

* Must obtain a license to practice Dentistry within the State of Kentucky within 12 months of appointment.
