Your Opportunity

As a Staff Landscape Architect/Urban Planner, within our Community Development business line you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of public and private sector projects and have a significant role in our Brownfields redevelopment practice. Our Brownfields Asset Transformation team works with communities in creating a vision for their redevelopment projects, followed by an implementation and funding plan. Our team then works long-term with communities to implement the funding, design, and engineering. Projects often translate from working with municipalities to working with the developers. Variety is vast, as every community has different redevelopment challenges to overcome. We work on areas with large environmental issues, transit-oriented desires, resiliency challenges, affordable housing needs, outdoor spaces, and more. Opportunities to work on non-brownfields redevelopment projects will also be available. We connect the people, places, and resources that take a project from concept to reality.

Your Key Responsibilities

Work on the Brownfields Asset Transformation team under the direction of licensed Landscape Architects and planners to assist in the development of projects throughout the southeast, in close collaboration with Stantec’s Buildings, Community Development, Urban Places, Environmental Services, and other project teams.
Understand and execute the site inventory and analysis process necessary to initiate a project. Conducts research of local ordinances, land development codes, local and regional regulations to develop project due diligence reports and fully understand site and design feasibility.
Investigate design variables, programmatic owner/client requirements, budget constraints, site constraints, and environmental and brownfield constraints.
Understand building operation, pedestrian/ vehicular circulation, accessibility, planting design, site grading, and stormwater management needs to successfully layout a site.
Prepare schematic, conceptual, design development and construction documents level plans for various project sites.
Prepared support graphics using various computer programs to support project visioning.
Collaborate with multi-disciplinary team on design and visioning for Area Wide Plans, Corridor Studies, and Neighborhood redevelopment plans.
Support brownfield grant projects through a variety of redevelopment tasks.
Prepare and lay out presentation boards, design documents, reports and presentations.
Support marketing and business development efforts.
Participate in meetings and presentations.
Perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

We are seeking a candidate with 0 to 5 years of educational or professional experience in landscape architecture, urban planning, brownfields planning, environmental planning, redevelopment, community engagement, public and/or private sector planning. A successful candidate should have the following skills:
Exceptional conceptual design and graphic skills using hand and computer drawing and rendering techniques.
Exceptional technical design skills in site and planning projects across a range of project scales from less than one acre to hundreds of acres in size. Skills required include site design layout and understanding of grading and stormwater principals.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint), AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, etc.), and SketchUp.
Experience with Lumion or other 3-D visualization programs is preferred, but not required.
Ability to facilitate community engagement events including project workshops, design charrettes, and presentations, both virtually and in person.
Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
Effective communicator and able to work on teams.

Education and Experience

0 to 5 years of experience in Landscape Architecture, Urban planning, or a related field.
Successful candidates must have an undergraduate and/or graduate degree from an accredited landscape architecture or urban planning program.
Current licensure as a Landscape Architect is beneficial but is not required. Eventual licensure will be required for continued advancement within the team.
Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal.

You will work in a fun and creative office setting, much of the time with computers and/or drawing by hand. In-office work environment will be preferred with flexibility to work from home as needed. Travel may be required as project span the southeast. Project trips may include initial site visits, project kickoff meetings, community engagement, and presentations. May occasionally visit study areas, construction sites and/or be exposed to outside elements and inclement weather conditions.
