Qualifications:

I. Education:

Must be a graduate of an accredited college of pharmacy and maintain active pharmacy license in the state of Georgia via the requirements of the Georgia State Board of Pharmacy.
Bachelor of Pharmacy degree required, Doctor of Pharmacy degree preferred
Must have or obtain knowledge of the LEAN Healthcare concepts and be able to implement these concepts into practice.

II. Experience:

Experience in retail pharmacy and infusion pharmacy; preferably in oncology setting.
Minimum of 3-5 years of pharmacy experience preferred.
Must have 2 years management/supervisory experience ; preferably in the oncology setting
Must have a broad knowledge of physician practice, pharmacy, nursing regulations and administration.
Must have the ability to use experience and judgment to make organizational decisions, accomplish goals and efficiently manage time and resources.
Must be able to convey information to staff and have excellent overall communication skills, both oral and written.
Experience in working with public in a courteous and professional manner
Multi-task oriented skills
Computer skills

General Summary of Duties:

The Georgia State Board of Pharmacy defines "pharmacist" as an individual currently licensed by the state to engage in the practice of pharmacy. This recognizes a pharmacist as a learned professional who is authorized to provide patient services and pharmacy care. The Board further defines "pharmacist in charge" as a pharmacist currently licensed in this state who accepts responsibility for the operation of a pharmacy in conformance with all laws and rules pertinent to the practice of pharmacy and the distribution of drugs and who is personally in full and actual charge of such pharmacy and personnel.

The pharmacist employed by Harbin Clinic will work within the settings and scope of Harbin Clinic Pharmacy and Harbin Clinic Medical Oncology. Any pharmacist working in the pharmacy during the pharmacist in charge's absence will be responsible for the operations of the pharmacy.

Pharmacists interpret and evaluate the appropriateness of physicians' orders and are responsible for the accuracy and safety of prescribed pharmaceuticals. Pharmacists communicate drug information to all customers, train pharmacy staff, and provide pharmaceutical care. Pharmacists also coordinate the drug therapy process for the oncology patient, and may include the following activities: drug selection, drug information, dosing, monitoring, outcome management, and patient education/counseling.

Job Scope:

Daily activities necessitate a significant amount of standing or walking, some light lifting, bending, and assisting with patient transportation. Work hours may vary according to the needs of the team and specific studies. Evening, weekend, on-call, and/or holiday hours may be required.

Essential Job Functions:

General Duties:
1. Collaborate closely with Department Manager and business office personnel regarding process improvement
2. Collaborate with Department Manager, Physicians, Nurse Practitioner, and Service Line Director to improve operational efficiency.
3. Answer phone calls and questions regarding pharmacy concerns
4. Must possess good judgment, be able to delegate and be creative for planning ahead
5. Contribution to team effort, involving the sharing of ideas and concerns and taking initiative to provide assistance to other staff members as needed.

Retail Pharmacy Duties:
1. Assures legal compliance by maintaining the pharmacy in accordance with Georgia State Board of Pharmacy and Georgia Drug Narcotics Agency rules, regulations and guidelines.
2. Ensures the integrity of controlled substances by maintaining inventory management system for controlled substances and investigating and reporting discrepancies as required.
3. Ensures accurate behind-the-counter transactions and dispensing of pharmaceuticals by developing new processes and operational guidelines.
4. Interprets and evaluates appropriateness of physician's orders
  1. Recognizing inappropriate drug therapies, initiates interventions, and assists with medication therapy plan in a timely manner
  2. Effectively assesses patient's medication therapy in accordance with specified medication problems.
5. Responsible for accuracy of computer entry and accuracy of final product
  1. Efficiently organizes work flow.
  2. Ensures computer order entry errors and dispensing errors do not exceed recognized standards.
  3. Prioritizes dispensing functions.
  4. Supervises retail pharmacy technicians
6. Communicates drug information to patients, nurses, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team.
  1. Provides medication counseling to customers in a timely manner.
7. Participates as an informational professional member of the retail team.
  1. Willingly assumes leadership responsibilities for administrative tasks of leader, process management, scheduling, problem solving, personnel issues, and other issues as applicable.

Medical Oncology Operational Duties:
1. Monitors all medication orders and patient parameters to provide safe and effective quality patient care.
  1. Reviews and interprets physician orders for all patients
  2. Monitors patient allergies prior to dispensing medications
  3. Monitors each order for drug interactions and incompatibilities
  4. Enters and verifies medication orders within a timely manner
2. Demonstrates competency in the following areas:
  1. Processing and preparing chemotherapy medications
  2. Renal and hepatic dosing as required
3. Serves as a source of drug information regarding drug therapy.
4. Prepares and dispenses medications to patients within the guidelines of USP <797> .
5. Consults with physicians in order to clarify therapy regimens
6. Preparation and maintenance of sterile compounding areas
7. Assists in completion of patient medication assistance paperwork
8. Assists in inventory management processes.
