The Intake and Assessment Unit (IAU) Supervisor oversees Department of Children and Families (DCF) programs which include Access, Initial Assessment, Foster Care Coordinator, Kinship Care, and Child Care Certification.

The IAU Supervisor is mandated to make an immediate to 24 hour decision regarding responding to a report of Child Abuse and Neglect.

The IAU Supervisor has responsibilities 24-7 as part of a rotation as the Supervisor On Call response for Juvenile Custody Intake.

The IAU Supervisor is the Administrator for contracted services of Targeted Case Management (TCM).

Essential Duties

Acts as primary department contact for all IAU related concerns.
Provides supervision to social workers/case managers in the Intake and Assessment Unit.
Screens all intakes and requests for service and assigns cases to individual workers on a daily basis.
Provides support, consultation and supervision to staff in assessing and determining the risk level of cases and the level/type of intervention and services required.
Keeps current with Local, State and Federal regulations applicable to department unit and ensures compliance with governmental regulations by educating department staff on regulatory changes. Is responsible to keep the Director informed of all significant operating issues and changes within the IA unit.
Provides sound judgement in decision making, coaching, and supervision of IAU and Juvenile Custody Intake.
Assists with and oversees formal records requests in child welfare unit(s).
Approves placement, funding and revision of placement decisions initiated by the IAU and Juvenile Custody Intake, as necessary. Approves out of home rate settings for CPS cases.
Oversees and coordinates Forensic Interviewing in the department. Obtaining this training as well as assuring department has the needed amount of trained staff.
Collaborates with other professionals including, but not limited to inner agency child welfare partners, attorneys, court personnel, law enforcement, providers, etc.
Facilitates Child First meetings which includes multidisciplinary team approach to case coordination with district attorney's office and law enforcement professionals.
According to agency policies and guidelines; reviews, verifies and authorizes timesheets and expense reports and authorizes requests for time off for IAU. Determines the necessity and appropriateness of requests and expenditures. Maintains adequate coverage of the IAU.
Promotes the development of IAU staff by assessing the skill levels of workers by developing and scheduling training to increase the capabilities of staff performing work within the unit.
Provides direction by implementing departmental practice and procedures as a proactive member of the Management Team.
Facilitates public awareness of services provided by the Human Services department by assisting in the coordination and attendance at interagency meetings and by making informational presentations to the community.
Assigns IAU staff to interagency and community committees related to department issues.
Completes annual performance evaluations for staff and develops individual performance goals and objectives with each staff in IAU.
Participates in and staff sheltering excises as needed based on incident.
Acts as primary department contact for all Foster Care licensing and Kinship Care related concerns.
Screens and assigns all Foster Care Provider inquiries and Kinship Care referrals.
Provides support and supervision to Foster/Kinship Coordinator as it relates to licensing rules, violations, concerns, etc.
Acts as primary department contact for Child Care Certification and related concerns.
Provides approval for Child Care Certification to providers and addresses violations and concerns as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors Degree in Social Work or a degree in a related field.

Masters of Social Work, (M.S.W.) or a Masters in a related field preferred.

Notable experience in social work practice, along with management in a Human Services related field preferred. Other education and experience deemed to be equivalent in giving the individual the knowledge and skills to satisfactorily carry out the responsibilities of the position will be considered.

Working Conditions
The Intake and Assessment Unit Supervisor will primarily perform job functions within an office environment and conference room meeting settings. Job functions for direct supervision may also occur in a court setting, school setting or client/providers homes, etc. Travel in personal or rental vehicle is required. There will be out of county overnight travel with hotel accommodations required to attend meetings and trainings, etc.

Physical Requirements
The Intake and Assessment Unit Supervisor will be required to perform non-sedentary and sedentary work. Non sedentary work includes walking variable distances on variable surfaces and climbing stairs; standing and sitting variable times; carrying a lap top computer (10-15#) and other materials simultaneously; including driving a vehicle to and from appointments. Must maintain a valid driver's license.
