What you will be doing:
This Public Health Nurse 5 is a regional manager for the Section of Public Health Nursing. This work has a meaningful impact across a large geographic area of Alaska; addressing a diverse range of health conditions, community characteristics, and other determinants of health. You will take on a key leadership role, overseeing the planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of public health nursing programs and activities for the Gulf Coast and Aleutian Regions. You will have significant autonomy and authority in setting regional goals aligned with the Public Health Nursing's strategic plan, ensuring the effective delivery of the three core functions and ten essential public health services. Supporting over 71 of Alaska’s communities along the Aleutian Chain, Kodiak, and Kenai Peninsula.

The Regional Nurse Manager also oversees teams located in Homer and Anchorage. Public Health Nursing staff, based out of these locations, serve clients at the health center, and engage with community partners throughout the region.

Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska;
AND
Master’s degree in nursing, public health, healthcare services, healthcare administration, or a closely related field;
AND
Any combination of additional education, certification, and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in:

Public Health: Applies knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, methods, and tools associated with protecting and improving the health of people and their communities, including promoting healthy lifestyles, researching disease and injury prevention, and detecting, preventing, and responding to infectious diseases.
Creativity and Innovation: Develops new insights into situations; questions conventional approaches; encourages new ideas and innovations; designs and implements new or cutting-edge programs/processes.
Performance Measurement: Knowledge of the principles and methods for evaluating program or organizational performance using financial and nonfinancial measures, including identification of evaluation factors (for example, workload, personnel requirements), metrics, and outcomes.
Planning and Evaluating: Organizes work, sets priorities, and determines resource requirements; determines short- or long-term goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinates with other organizations or parts of the organization to accomplish goals; monitors progress and evaluates outcomes.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:

Progressively responsible professional nursing experience that includes prior leadership responsibility in health care, public health, health care delivery systems, nursing administration, consultative nursing, and/or a teaching capacity that is relevant to providing either public health services in a public health organization (e.g., tribal, city, county, or state) or population health services in a hospital or primary care setting.

Special Notes:
Candidates not currently licensed by the State of Alaska, who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Alaska and requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities, may apply for vacancies in this job class. Applicants qualifying under this option may receive a conditional job offer; however, proof of RN licensure will be required prior to appointment and reporting for duty.

Candidates not actively enrolled, but who can provide proof of acceptance into an accredited Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-to-BSN) bridge program, may apply for vacancies in the Public Health Nurse 1 job class. Continued employment of the successful candidate is contingent upon active enrollment and attendance in the program commencing within six months of initial hire.

Successful performance of this work requires knowledge of principles and concepts of professional nursing, public and community health, and health care systems typically acquired through a course of study resulting in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Direct Entry Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). Continued employment and advancement from Public Health Nurse I to Public Health Nurse 2 is contingent upon maintaining active enrollment, in good academic standing, and successful completion of an accredited Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-to-BSN) bridge program within twenty-four months of initial hire, including time devoted to completing the enrollment process.

“Training” and “education” are synonyms for the process of acquiring knowledge and skills through instruction. It includes instruction through formal and informal methods (such as classroom, on-line, self-study, and on-the-job), from accredited and unaccredited sources, and long-duration (such as a post-secondary degree) and short-duration (such as a seminar) programs.

“Professional experience” means work that is creative, analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range and depth of specialized knowledge of the profession's principles, concepts, theories, and practices; and is performed with the power or right to decide or act according to one's own judgment.

“Progressively responsible” means indicating growth and/or advancement in complexity, difficulty, or level of responsibility.
