Job Title

This is responsible non-supervisory work in verification of diverse and complex daily collection and receipt of government revenues (property taxes) and collection of fees for tax clearance and W2 forms and the preparation of appropriate collection and deposit documents in a large collection agency. Work is performed under general supervision and employee carries out duties and responsibilities with regards to department rules, regulations and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties (not all inclusive):

Operates machines such as calculator, computer, FMS (Financial Management System) to provide information on bills being collected and to account for correctness and accuracy using codes by letter and numbers.
Inputs daily information of collections into the FMS so that an accurate record of monies collected can be provided (for cash receipt entry).
Types information covering CD's and statement for deposit for previous day's collection and forwards receipt to the bank for deposit.
Prepares daily summary of collection and deposits.
Records information from CD's checklist to account for daily receipt necessary for future reference or to be verified by auditor.
Communicates verbally to taxpayers giving and receiving information for deposits (previous balances) using telephone or direct contact.
Files documents such as daily deposits EFT's (monies coming in by wire transfer) for record keeping purposes.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or its equivalent, supplemented by six (6) credits in accounting, four (4) years governmental or commercial experiences as a cashier, account clerk or any position with responsibility for collecting and accounting for cash. Necessary special qualifications: Police Record will be required by Department of Finance for all prospective candidates.

Supervisory controls: Employee receives general supervision but must be familiar with applicable agency procedures, regulations and policies. Any unusual cases are referred to supervisor for appropriate action. Guidelines include agency accounting regulations and manuals. Rules and regulations, laws pertaining to collection and deposits. Complexity: Work is recurring and repetitive in nature. Employee is familiar with system of procedures and uses initiative to perform work in proper priority. Heavy cash collection, great responsibility, average week's collection over $50,000. Scope and effect: To collect outstanding property taxes (monies) from taxpayers. Personal contacts: Taxpayers, general public, internal and external employees. Purpose of contacts: Purpose of the contacts are for receiving or furnishing information involving balances, past due amounts to taxpayers. Physical demands: Lifting light to moderate boxes walking, standing, long periods of sitting. Environment: Clustered with boxes, crowded, dusty, uncomfortable, air-conditioned office, very poor.
