POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for leading and/or assisting with the development and implementation of safety programs and processes. This includes organizing or participating in standard development teams, developing training for new programs, facilitating implementation of new standards, and verifying effective implementation in the field.

This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency, and skill level. The actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administers health and safety management system for assigned assets to ensure sustained regulatory compliance. Maintains current information on local, state, and federal safety regulations. Provides consultation and support regarding occupational safety including corporate EHS&S policies and standards, and industry practices. Provides internal stakeholders with assessments of regulatory issues, including analysis of pending regulations.
Implements safety programs to prevent or correct unsafe working conditions. Administers safe work programs and practices, such as, but not limited to: energy isolation (lock out / tag out), personal protective equipment (PPE) use, hot work, confined space entry, fall protection, and permit to work.
Participates in workplace assessments. Compiles, analyzes, and interprets information derived from workplace assessments, such as permit-to-work/job safety analysis audits, field safety audits, and safety observations. Advises on safe design aspects of equipment during project design. Supports and facilitates employee engagement in safety through channels like Safety Committees.
Prepares and submits timely and substantively complete regulatory reports, documentation, and similar documents. Maintains current, accurate, and complete records.
Conducts incident investigations and initiates corrective actions to address root cause(s) and reduce risk of recurrence. Assists with regulatory inspections or investigations.
Conducts audits to identify hazards, deficiencies, potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk. Partners with site leadership to implement corrective actions identified during audits, inspections, and incident investigations. Takes appropriate action for gap closure.
Supports engagement and communication program to foster an "incident-free workplace" culture, build awareness of safety core values. Serves as a role model and champion for safety.
Develops health, environmental and safety information, manuals, training material, and programs; informs employees of related policies and procedures; conducts appropriate training sessions.
Reviews engineering designs and cost estimates for health, environmental, and safety equipment or systems; determines engineering specifications and recommends equipment, as required
Provides support to construction projects, including project planning and onboarding of contractor safety representatives.
Maintains sufficient professional expertise and proficiency in discipline to achieve Company expectations and perform technical assignments.
Travel expectations: up to 25%

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED required with 2 years of relevant experience, or
Bachelor’s degree in HES-related field with no relevant experience
Working knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements
Ability to identify issues and work as an independent problem solver
Capable of managing conflict in the work environment
Focuses on developing business acumen and technical knowledge
Current safety-related certifications are a plus
Must hold a valid driver's license with an excellent driving record
Must be able to pass a drug test and background check

SKILLS:

Must possess knowledge of safety metrics, root cause analysis, excavation safety, confined space entry, fall protection requirements, energy isolation, hot work, hazard communication, mobile equipment, and mobile crane safety.
Must have the ability to prepare safety-related reports and other types of documentation in an accurate and timely manner.
Ability to incorporate different training methods based on the audience and capability to speak in front of large groups.
Must be able to properly analyze process safety-related information and present findings in a clear and concise manner.
Must be proficient in conducting onsite assessments and evaluations as they relate to safety and process safety management items.
Must be able to perform and track all site safety required trainings.
Must have excellent time and project management skills and ability to work well with minimal supervision.
Communication Skills: Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. The job will require public speaking engagements and significant report writing.
Computer Skills: Must have exceptional computer skills, including knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Outlook. A working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and SharePoint systems is also required. Familiarity with safety-related software management systems is a plus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Professional Level 1 (P1)
• High School diploma or GED required with 2 years of relevant experience or Bachelor’s degree in an HES-related field with no relevant experience

Professional Level 2 (P2)
• High School diploma or GED required with 4 years of relevant experience or Bachelor’s degree with two (2) or more years of relevant experience
• Working knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements
• Ability to identify issues and work as an independent problem solver
• Capable of managing conflict in the work environment
• Focuses on developing business acumen and technical knowledge

Professional Level 3 (P3)
• High School diploma or GED required with 6 years of relevant experience or Bachelor’s degree with four (4) or more years of relevant experience
• Ability to manage complex projects with limited support
• Mentors less experienced members of the team
• Ability to identify risk and implement mitigations based on knowledge of the business

Professional Level 4 (P4)
• High School diploma or GED required with 12 years of relevant experience or Bachelor’s degree with ten (10) or more years of relevant experience
• Recognized Subject Matter Expert in the field of safety within the Company
• Collaborates enterprise-wide to enhance safety performance
• Collaborates effectively with internal business partners to proactively identify complex risk and implement strategic mitigations

Professional Level 5 (P5)
• High School diploma or GED required with 15 years of relevant experience or Bachelor’s degree with fifteen (15) or more years of experience
• Works autonomously in a dynamic environment within MPC and industry
• Recognized Subject Matter Expert in the field of safety representing MPC in industry
• Collaborates effectively with external industry groups to proactively identify complex industry risk and implement strategic mitigations
