Position: HR Specialist
Reports To: Human Resources Director
Location: On-Site, Columbus, Ohio
The HR Specialist plays a critical role within People Services, bringing strong HR operations expertise, sound judgment, and a proactive mindset to support core HR processes, compliance, employee relations intake, and organizational initiatives. This role is ideal for an HR professional who has moved beyond entry-level responsibilities and is ready to take on greater ownership and complexity while building toward an HR Manager or HR Business Partner path. Working closely with HR leadership, the HR Specialist ensures accurate execution of HR processes, early identification of issues, and delivery of a consistent and compliant employee experience across corporate and restaurant environments.
HR Operations & Process Execution
Independently manage day-to-day HR operations with high accuracy and follow-through
Serve as a primary point of contact for routine employee and leader HR inquiries, escalating complex matters appropriately
Maintain and continuously improve HR SOPs, templates, and process documentation
Support compliance-related documentation including terminations, unemployment claims, and record retention
Proactively identify compliance gaps or risks and partner with HR leadership on solutions
Employee Relations Support
Provide Tier 1 employee relations support, including intake, documentation, and issue tracking
Support HR leadership with investigation preparation, documentation, and follow-up
HR Systems & Reporting
Maintain accurate employee data within the HRIS (UKG preferred)
Conduct data audits and resolve discrepancies
Projects & Continuous Improvement
Support and independently manage HR projects and initiatives
2+ years of progressive HR or People Services experience
Strong working knowledge of HR operations, compliance, and employee lifecycle processes
Experience independently managing I-9s, audits, and HR documentation
Exposure to employee relations intake and documentation
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HR systems (UKG preferred)
Experience in a multi-location, franchise, or hourly workforce environment
Familiarity with compliance training, audits, or HR process design
HR certification or coursework (PHR, SHRM-CP)
Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
