Provo City accepts lateral transfer applications from current police officers in other agencies at any time. Lateral transfers must be currently employed as a certified law enforcement officer, or have been employed as such within the last 18 months; have at least 2 years of certified law enforcement officer experience; and have Utah POST law enforcement officer certification or qualify to be certified as such.
Lateral Transfer Hiring Range: $33.21 - $54.26 per hour
Police Officer (full career series): $31.61 - $54.26 per hour
Lateral appointees receive a $5,000 signing bonus ($2,000 payable at start of employment and $3,000 payable upon completion of the one-year probationary period).

Gather and organize intelligence in a logical manner.
Investigate complaints, traffic accidents, and crimes by interviewing suspects, witnesses, prisoners, and victims.
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
Law Enforcement Officer Certificate by Utah State Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). Must be a United States citizen or a lawful permanent resident of the United States who has been in the United States legally for 5 years and has legal authorization to work in the United States.
Lateral transfers may be brought in at the Police Officer II, Senior Police Officer, or Master Police Officer level depending on qualifications.
Police Officer II ( - In addition to the minimum qualifications above, requires a minimum of two years of law enforcement experience equivalent to the level of a Provo City Police Officer 1.
Senior Police Officer ( - In addition to the minimum qualifications above, requires a minimum of 3 years of law enforcement experience as a Provo Police Officer II OR 5 years of comparable experience as a law enforcement officer. Must also obtain either POST Advanced Officer Training or Provo P.Advanced Officer course (or approved equivalent) and have special team assignment experience (Lateral hires have 6 months from hire date to complete certificate and testing requirements).
Master Police Officer ( - In addition to the minimum qualifications above, requires a minimum of nine years of law enforcement experience. POST Mid-Management Certificate, or Launching Learning Revolution Training with written exams (80% score or higher), IACP Leadership in Police Organizations Program course.) Lateral hires have 6 months from hire date to complete certificate and testing requirements.
Applicants who meet the minimum requirements will be screened for any additional requirements and then invited to take the Provo City Police Officer Lateral Transfer Exam.
