As a Police Officer with American Fork City, you will play a crucial role in the enforcement of state and local laws to uphold peace and protect our valued citizens. Your responsibilities will include the prevention of crime through proactive patrols of city streets, deterring criminal activity, and swiftly responding to calls for service to render aid to those in distress. In addition to these vital functions, you will investigate criminal activity to bring suspects to justice and complete detailed, accurate reports of criminal cases and arrests.

To succeed as a full-time Police Officer with American Fork City, candidates must possess a strong foundation of skills and qualifications. A high school diploma and "basic certification" through Utah P.O.S.T. are essential, along with current enrollment in the Police Academy or active employment at a Utah law enforcement agency. Proficiency in modern law enforcement principles, interrogation techniques, and crisis management is crucial. Candidates should be well-versed in applicable Federal, State, County, and City laws, as well as methods of arrest and emergency vehicle operations.

Required skills include the effective use of firearms, less-lethal weapons, and police equipment, as well as interviewing methods for victims, witnesses, and suspects. The ability to react effectively under pressure, demonstrate problem-solving skills, and maintain physical fitness is vital. Strong written and verbal communication abilities, coupled with the capacity to build effective working relationships, are necessary attributes for this role. Applicants must be at least 21 years old and successfully pass comprehensive background checks and psychological examinations.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

• Graduation from high school and "basic certification" through Utah P.O.S.T.; or currently enrolled in the Police Academy. OR is currently employed at a Utah law enforcement agency.
• Must possess a valid Utah State driver's license.
• LEO certification
• Must maintain law enforcement certification by completing annual training requirements in the department.
