Summary: The Lead CMA administers care management and coordinates activities for patients, provides direct patient care, assists providers with procedures, and performs technical support to the Practice Supervisor and Medical Director. Responsibilities include vaccinations, injections, diagnostic testing, patient intake, and maintaining clinical records in accordance with university policies.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare exam rooms and sterilize instruments and equipment.

Assist patients in the exam room, taking history, chief complaint, vitals, and other data.

Perform diagnostic tests per physician orders (ECG, blood work, vision and hearing screening, urine dip, PFT’s).

Administer vaccines and injections as directed by the physician (limited circumstances).

Provide intramuscular and subcutaneous injections in accordance with State regulations.

Notify supervisor to order clinical supplies including injectables and vaccines.

Assist physicians and nurses during examinations and procedures, and collect laboratory specimens.

Assist with minor surgical procedures and wound care.

Document clinical information in EMR system.

Maintain and clean office medical equipment.

Participate in performance improvement activities.

Serve as on‑site trainer for CMA staff members and backup for the Practice Supervisor as needed.

Schedule patient appointments, manage patient flow, and maintain accurate medical records.

Answer phone calls and handle billing and coding for insurance purposes.

Verify patient demographics and insurance information, including pre‑authorizations and pre‑certifications.

Coordinate referrals, prescriptions, and other patient care services at external facilities.

Retrieve and enter referrals into the billing system and manage front‑office supplies inventory.

Maintain a professional and orderly office appearance and support office security procedures.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.

Certification from a recognized certifying body (e.g., AAMA, AMT, NHA, NCCT); applicants may be licensed in New Jersey for intramuscular/subcutaneous injections.

Attainment of satisfactory comprehension and experience in intramuscular and subcutaneous injection techniques.

Proficiency in phlebotomy techniques.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Strong knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.

Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment.

Compassionate and patient‑focused attitude.

Preferred Qualifications

At least two years of previous experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting.

Familiarity with EPIC electronic health record system.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

Ability to lift and move medical equipment and supplies.

Manual dexterity to handle instruments and perform medical procedures.

Effective communication with internal and external customers, even in stressful circumstances.

Working Conditions

Work performed in a clinical environment.

Exposure to infectious diseases and bodily fluids.

May require evening, weekend, or holiday shifts depending on clinic hours.

May require occasional travel to other offices within the department; travel time will be compensated.

Salary/Benefits
The starting rate is $24.01 per hour (Probationary Rate). After completion of a six‑month probationary period, the employee’s pay will increase to the Job Rate of $24.65. Candidate may be hired at the Job Rate to start, depending on experience.
