The Clinical Dietitian I provides nutrition therapy and education to patients, families, and the community. Develops and conducts educational and in-service training programs.

Examines patient medical and nonmedical information by interviewing patients or caregivers and reviewing medical records. Establishes appropriate nutrition care. Conducts nutrient intake testing. Formulates intravenous and enteral nutrition therapy with macro and micronutrient manipulation. Establishes total parental nutrition therapy rates and duration of infusion. Provides single or group nutrition counseling for outpatients and inpatients. Documents important nutritional information in the medical record. Researches, develops, and delivers educational programs for patients, families, staff, dietetic interns, or community groups. Conducts in-service training for staff and helps with training and evaluation of dietetic interns. Develops nutrition education tools and documents education in patient medical records.

Conducts research and develops proposals to obtain grant funding. Conducts research for projects, writes articles for publications, and delivers presentations on research topics.

Engage in discharge planning to gather and exchange information. Participate in meetings related to nutrition education, patient care standards, or dietetic internship programs. Potentially serve as a member of the Health Education Task Force.

Maintains current knowledge of nutrition services functions through reading literature, attending workshops, seminars, conferences and by participating in professional organizations.

Participates in quality assurance by helping develop patient care criteria and understanding actual care delivered.

Participates in organizing and executing health fairs and other related community events.

Accountable for the proper use of patient protected health information.

Ability to deal with complex situations and resolve patient and customer service concerns.

Licensed Registered Dietitian preferred.
