Registered Nurse - Obstetrics

The role involves delivering coordinated nursing care for patients according to established standards of care and the nursing process. The nurse supervises and directs the activities of various levels of assigned nursing staff. Responsibilities include collecting relevant data pertinent to the patient's health or situation. Assessment data is analyzed to determine diagnoses and care issues. The plan is implemented, care delivery is coordinated, and strategies to promote health and a safe environment are employed. Collaboration with the team, including the patient, family, and healthcare providers, is essential in providing care. Direct health information is communicated to patients, families, and treatment teams. Participation in discharge planning ensures continuity of care. Appropriate delegation and coordination of duties among the healthcare team members are part of the role. Medical and religious exemptions may apply. The unit provides antepartum/antenatal and postpartum/postnatal care for maternity patients and normal newborns. Gynecology patients are not included in this unit. Labor and delivery services are not part of this department's responsibilities.
