SUMMARY The Teacher Assistant works with the Head Start Teacher in implementing all classroom activities including meal service. The Assistant Teacher cooperates with the Teacher, Paraprofessional and other Head Start staff in providing the best possible program. Works with children and families in the classroom and performs other duties as assigned by the teacher.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS --Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Plans with the Teacher and implements daily activities, assisting with completing child assessments using Creative Curriculum.
Data entry on teaching strategies GOLD software.
Works with the children individually and in groups in the center; accompanies the class on field trips.
Comply and implement local, state and Head Start federal guidelines.
Works with teacher and paraprofessional to serve and clean up meals and purchase groceries. Attends team meetings, CAP Agency and Head Start trainings/meetings and other training as assigned.
Communicates with parents and staff to ensure complete services for each child. Assists in maintaining a safe indoor and outdoor environment in all aspects of the program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education, Training and Experience Guidelines Must be proficient in Microsoft office and have previous data entry experience. At a minimum have a CDA credential or a state awarded certificate that meets or exceeds a CDA credential, or an associates or higher degree in any field. Current Infant/Child First Aid and CPR Certificate preferred.
Knowledge of: Applicable policies, procedures and regulations covering specific areas of assignment.
Classroom policies, procedures, and processes.
Methods and techniques to assist students in early childhood learning.
Methods and techniques for working with students with disabilities and special needs.
Specialized Head Start and agency software applications and procedures.
Local community resources and regional community services programs.
Personal computers utilizing standard and specialized software.
Monitoring and improving student behavior and learning skills.
Assisting children and special needs students and assessing educational needs.
Administering educational and school support programs.
Reacting quickly to situations that could create personal stress and safety problems.
Communicating effectively with children.
Collaborating as a team member, with colleagues, families, staff, and community representatives.
Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers, families, clients and community agencies.
