Part-Time School NurseLEAD Charter School seeks an exceptional Part-Time School Nurse to join our mission-driven community. The School Nurse will lead the implementation of the OYN school model in health instruction and services and support implementation across the school, raising student achievement in preparation for success in postsecondary education, career, and community leadership. To promote health and safety in the school environment and provide health services to students, faculty and staff; to assist with the teaching of sound health practices.The mission of LEAD is to enable students ages 16-21 in grades 9-12 to master essential skills for success in careers, postsecondary education, and community leadership within a global society. As passionate advocates of opportunity youth, we strive to provide the necessary support and opportunities for our students to succeed.We are looking for a nurse with a valid Registered Nurse and New Jersey School Nurse Certificate, demonstrated success in supporting underserved populations with health issues, expertise in school health nursing practice and emergency procedures, knowledge of child growth and development, community and family dynamics, current health issues, and wellness education. Knowledge of community health and social services resources and ability to communicate effectively with non-school health professionals and social service agencies. Capacity to teach students in the health curriculum. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, families, staff and community. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including use of office productivity software. Career bonus: yearly resigning bonus.Performance responsibilities include working in cooperation with the school physician, other school health professionals, members of the staff, parents and community health professionals to ensure a healthy school climate and to minimize absence due to illness. Conducting health services and screening programs as required by law and/or board policies. Scheduling and supervising health surveys of students and staff. Providing emergency care in case of sudden illness and administering first-aid in case of injury to students or staff according to established policies and procedures. Maintaining up-to-date health records on all students, maintaining separate records of immunizations for the purpose of immunization record auditor and ensuring their confidentiality. Helping prevent and control communicable disease through lectures, inspections, exclusion and re-admission of students and staff in keeping with state and local health regulations and school policies. Notifying Head of School or his/her designee to arrange for immediate examination of any pupil who appears to be under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. Conferring with and advising students, parents, and staff members on matters pertaining to the health and safety of students. Participating in the development and implementation of the school's emergency and crisis management plan. Assisting the Head of School and the child study team in the identification and placement of students with disabilities who need special education services. Developing and teaching comprehensive health education curriculum and serving as a health/safety education resource person to teachers. Promoting healthy/safe school environment by assisting the administration and staff to maintain safe and sanitary conditions throughout the school. Reporting problems promptly to the Head of School. Administering prescribed medication to students in accordance with law and board policy. Providing training and supervision of the emergency administration of epinephrine for designated school staff. Collaborating with community and other nonschool health agencies to meet the health needs of children and families. Providing special health care and related services to meet the needs of students with disabilities. Receiving training in the treatment of asthma and maintaining a valid current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate as required by law. Assisting in the development of policies and procedures for comprehensive health education and services. Preparing health and safety reports as required by law and/or requested by the Head of School. Reporting any suspicion of child abuse to the Division of Youth and Family Services and Head of School. Performing such other appropriate duties as required under law or as may be assigned by the Head of School or student personnel services director.Terms of employment include part-time 12-month employee. Salary to be recommended by the Head of School and approved by the board. Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the board's policy on evaluation.
