School Nurse
The Superintendent invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the position of School Nurse within the Office of Early Childhood. Qualifications and requirements include an appropriate New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate or eligibility for an Emergency license, a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, and a current New Jersey registered professional nurse license. Preferred experience includes a minimum of five years as a registered nurse. Bilingual skills in English, Spanish, Portuguese, or French Creole are a plus.
Basic functions and responsibilities include developing comprehensive health records for new students, performing routine screenings, providing emergency medical care, counseling on medical and health-related information, and participating in health education programs. The school nurse also assists in planning and maintaining a safe and healthful school environment, dispenses medication prescribed by a physician, and serves on various committees within the school.
Salary range is $70,000-$114,750 plus a $3,000 stipend for a ten-month employment period. Union affiliation is with the Newark Teachers Association (NTA). For more details on benefits, visit .
