RN, Registered Nurse - Emergency Care PRN

Job Description Summary MUSC Community Physicians (MCP) provides healthcare across rural South Carolina. The RN II provides nursing care using the nursing process, directing team members and collaborating with multidisciplinary staff to provide appropriate care within a secure correctional setting.

Work Arrangement: PRN - 8 hours per week.

Responsibilities Provides nursing care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Directs and leads other assigned team members, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to provide age/developmentally appropriate care.

Delivers patient-centered care addressing physical, emotional, cultural, religious, and environmental needs.

Conducts assessments, develops nursing diagnoses, identifies outcomes, plans and implements interventions, provides health teaching, and evaluates care.

Delivering nursing care to inmates/detainees while following correctional facility safety and security protocols.

Responding promptly to emergencies anywhere within the secure perimeter (medical emergencies, injuries, suicide attempts, etc.).

Managing care in intake/booking, general population, segregation, and medical observation units.

Documenting care in accordance with correctional medical record requirements and chain-of-custody considerations when applicable.

Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor of Nursing preferred. RN staff hired after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree must be enrolled in a BSN program within two years and complete it within four years. Minimum one year of RN experience required.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations Licensure as an RN by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current AHA BLS or Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers required.

Associate's Degree, and a minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse required. Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.

Capacity to lift and move patients or medical equipment as needed.

Visual acuity and color perception to accurately read medical charts, documents, and monitors.

Stamina and resilience to handle the physical and emotional demands of providing patient care, including long shifts and potentially stressful situations.

Mobility to navigate clinical environments, including moving between patient rooms, offices, and other areas of the facility.

Compliance with infection control protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
