We have a large backlog of work in the Power, Water, Industrial and Heavy Civil sectors and are looking for a Sr. Civil Estimator to join our team! Estimating is not a back-office function at Kiewit -its a core business driver! Estimating determines how we work, how we plan work and protects the company from necessary risk! In this role you will be be trained to lead estimates, work with our preconstruction and construction teams, supporting a variety of Infrastructure self-performed projects. This division of Kiewit executes hands-on construction in the infrastructure market performing mass grading/excavation, drainage, paving, utility work, earthwork, site development, concrete, asphalt for large scale highway/bridge projects, aviation projects, rail/transit, reservoirs, and heavy water/wastewater. Kiewit's Central District is one of our largest infrastructure districts specializing in heavy civil, structural concrete/bridge, water/wastewater, and transportation projects. We self-perform work such as mass grading, drainage, paving, underground piping, underground utility infrastructure, and more - so be ready to get your hands dirty! This position will be located for the Kansas City metro area, in our Lenexa Kansas Area office.
Develop and lead complete estimates and quantity/material takeoffs for self-performed civil construction scopes of work for design/build, design/bid/build and EPC projects for ground up infrastructure projects (Heavy Civil, Highway, Bridge, Rail/Transit, Utilities, Drainage, Aviation and Infrastructure portions of power plants)
Review owner plans and specifications to develop a comprehensive understanding of the project; develop plan for the actual construction to serve as basis for the estimate.
Review all bid and contract documents and home office legal department opinions.
Conduct site investigation prior to forming a plan of operations to identify any problems or conditions of an unusual nature that may be present.
Participate in constructability reviews, Collaborate with project managers, design engineers, superintendents, clients and other Kiewit districts to align expectations, phasing and scheduling of the work to ensure accuracy within the estimate.
Stay abreast of trends and developments, such as new equipment, methods and procedures that are developing in the industry.
Provide leadership and strategy in subcontractor and vendor selection process; May lead small estimating teams and lead estimates for projects.
BS in engineering, construction, estimating or similar field, and a minimum of 5+ years' related estimating infrastructure experience. Ideal candidate has demonstrated experience with estimating infrastructure self-performed construction projects (civil, earthwork, drainage, structural/bridge, grading, concrete, form-work, asphalt, underground utilities). If no degree, a minimum of 10+ years experience combined in Estimating, Field Construction/Superintendent experience required
Experience leading estimates and small estimating teams, providing coaching/mentoring is required at this level
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products (e.g. Excel, Work, Outlook, PowerPoint) and proficient with various estimating tools and eager to learn "InEight"
Ability to go to site locations as required for walkdowns, and other estimating related functions
