Title Histotechnologist II

Employee Type Regular – Day shift, 8 hours (United States of America)

Overview The Histotechnologist II completes routine histology to include fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining (H&E and special stains) of human tissue for evaluation. This includes performing complex techniques such as immunohistochemistry, assisting pathologists and/or assistants with frozen sections and FNA procedures, accessioning pathology specimens, daily QC documentation, computer and LIS program usage, and patient safety initiatives.

Responsibilities Assign correct accession number to specimens logged into Histology.

Select the correct processing schedule for each run.

Incorporate appropriate delay programs for weekend and holiday operations.

Notify the senior technician of any discrepancies/abnormalities that could be resolved with established protocols.

Ensure timely turnaround time for specimens and accurately orient tissue for embedding.

Cut slides with correct orientation and thickness for each tissue type.

Select and sequence the chemical solutions required for H&E staining.

Prepare and maintain solutions to ensure consistent staining results.

Set up and monitor automated slide stainers for maximum throughput.

Process non‑gynecological specimens.

Recognize acceptable versus unacceptable staining results for special and IHC stains, select appropriate controls, and include a control section with each case.

Assist pathologists and staff with FNA procedures.

Education Associate's Degree (60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours) from an accredited college/university, with at least 12 semester hours in biology and 12 in chemistry.

Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours or 180 quarter hours) from an accredited college/university, with at least 12 semester hours in biology and 12 in chemistry.

Experience & Qualifications Minimum of 1 year histology laboratory experience, preferably in a hospital setting.

Preferred Skills & Abilities Excellence in core value customer skills.

Strong PC skills.

Strong analytical skills.

Experience with EPIC preferred.

Licenses & Certifications Histotechnologist – American Society for Clinical Pathology (required).

Histotechnician – American Society for Clinical Pathology (required).

Physical Demands Light-Medium physical demand.
