Machinist
The Machinist operates and sets up CNC and manual mills and lathes to produce precision components, following blueprints and machining specifications. This role works in a machine shop environment and requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to perform accurate setups and machining operations.
Responsibilities

Operate CNC and manual mills and lathes to produce precision parts according to specifications and blueprints.
Set up CNC machines, including tooling, workholding, and axis zero points, to ensure accurate and efficient machining.
Perform manual machining operations on mills and lathes, including turning, milling, drilling, and boring.
Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions to determine machining requirements and dimensions.
Use G-code and basic CNC programming techniques to load, adjust, and run machining programs as needed.
Perform machine setups for different jobs, including selecting appropriate tooling and fixtures.
Monitor machining operations, inspect parts, and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality and tolerance requirements.
Work with Haas, Mazak, and other CNC equipment in a machine shop environment.
Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper handling and storage of tooling and materials.
Follow safety procedures and best practices while operating machining equipment and handling tools.
Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production schedules and quality standards.
Essential Skills

Proven experience as a machinist working with both CNC and manual mills and lathes.
Strong proficiency in setting up CNC machines, including tooling, workholding, and axis settings.
Ability to operate manual mills and lathes for a variety of machining operations.
Solid blueprint reading skills, including understanding dimensions, tolerances, and machining symbols.
Experience working in a machine shop environment with common tooling and equipment.
Hands-on experience with Haas and Mazak CNC machines or similar equipment.
Ability to work with G-code and CNC programming concepts for machining operations.
Knowledge of machining processes, cutting speeds, feeds, and proper tool selection.
Attention to detail and ability to maintain tight tolerances and high-quality standards.
Ability to work full-time on a first shift schedule with extended hours as needed.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Background as a machinist with experience in both CNC and manual machining.
Familiarity with setting up and operating multi-axis CNC equipment.
Experience with tooling selection, setup reduction, and process improvement in a machine shop.
Comfort working with different materials and adapting machining techniques accordingly.
Strong problem-solving skills for troubleshooting machining and setup issues.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a production environment.

Work Environment
This role is based in a machine shop environment operating primarily on first shift, typically from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Candidates can expect to work around 50 hours per week, reflecting a steady workload and extended hours. The work involves hands-on operation of CNC and manual mills and lathes, including Haas and Mazak equipment, with regular use of tooling, fixtures, and measurement tools. The setting is industrial and production-oriented, requiring adherence to safety practices and appropriate shop attire suitable for machining and working around equipment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $36.00/hr.
