Early Morning Janitorial Cleaning

Housekeeping and maintenance play an important role in maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming learning environment for students, guests, and team members. At Aveda Institute of Chicago, we are committed to providing a professional, safe, and supportive atmosphere, and our Custodian helps ensure our facility operates smoothly and stays in good working order every day.
Key Responsibilities
Early Morning (6:00 AM - 8:00 AM) - Before guests/team members arrive:

Sweep and mop all classrooms, common areas, restrooms, break areas, and other facility spaces.
Perform daily sanitation of high-touch surfaces and restrooms.
Remove trash and recycling and reset spaces for the day ahead.
Daytime (8:00 AM - 11:00 AM) - While facility is occupied:
Spot-clean and maintain common areas, restrooms, and break areas throughout the morning.
Restock restroom supplies, cleaning products, and other facility essentials.
Wipe down surfaces and shared spaces as needed.
Manage laundry operations, including washing, drying, folding, and distributing linens, towels, capes, and other school materials.
Organize and maintain back-of-house storage areas, supply rooms, and laundry areas.
Maintenance & Repairs:
Perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks, such as fixing faucets, changing lightbulbs, tightening fixtures, and other basic handyman duties.
Identify and report larger maintenance or facility issues to leadership.
Support facility upkeep projects as assigned.
Ongoing:
Monitor inventory levels and communicate supply needs to leadership.
Follow all safety, sanitation, and infection-control procedures.
Perform other housekeeping and maintenance-related duties as assigned by leadership.
Schedule
~ Monday-Saturday, 6:00 AM-11:00 AM

Qualifications
Previous housekeeping, janitorial, custodial, or maintenance experience preferred.
Basic handyman skills (e.g., minor plumbing fixes, lightbulb replacement, general repairs) required.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and organization.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
Dependable, punctual, and able to maintain a consistent work routine.
Positive attitude and willingness to support the team.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Frequent walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, and moving throughout the workday.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment and handle cleaning products according to established procedures.
Ability to use basic hand tools for minor repairs and maintenance tasks.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organization.
