Description:
The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver.
The RN assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame.
The RN provides care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process.
The RN implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice.
The RN maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided.
The documentation assures the integration of information for use by the healthcare team.
The RN completes an initial assessment upon patient admission.
The RN develops an appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards.
The plan is based on patient and family needs.
The RN implements the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures.
The RN modifies the plan of care based upon continuous evaluation.
The RN takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting safety hazards.
The RN communicates with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues.
The RN offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers.
The RN confers with colleagues to expand their knowledge base.
The RN identifies their own learning needs and takes initiative to begin appropriate solutions.
The RN fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies.
The RN monitors patients for seizure activity.
The RN ensures good communication with patients and families.
The communication is facilitated by meaningful hourly rounding and bedside shift report.
