Job Title Maintenance Technician III Job Description Summary
Tech 3 – Roles & Responsibilities (Leadership ‑ Driven, Conveyor Maintenance – FreshDirect)
Mechanical Expertise & System Reliability

• Serve as the primary mechanical authority on Spirals, Sorters, MDRs, belts, merges, diverts, and accumulation zones.
• Identify mechanical vulnerabilities across the site and proactively recommend improvements.
• Execute complex mechanical repairs with precision, ensuring equipment returns to optimal performance.

Preventive Maintenance Leadership & Standards Enforcement

• Set the standard for PM quality, ensuring all tasks are completed with zero missed items.
• Analyze PM data to identify patterns, emerging risks, and areas needing redesign or adjustment.
• Train other Techs on equipment behavior, wear indicators, and proper PM execution.

Site Improvement & Continuous Optimization

• Actively seek out inefficiencies, recurring jams, and mechanical weak points across the conveyor system, Sorters, Spirals.
• Lead small improvement projects focused on uptime, jam reduction, and equipment reliability.
• Collaborate with operations to identify workflow issues and propose mechanical solutions.
• Recommend parts, design changes, or process adjustments that enhance system performance.
• Track recurring issues and drive long‑term corrective actions, not just short‑term fixes.

Provide clear, actionable communication to operations, maintenance leadership, and controls teams.

• Deliver high‑quality work orders, shift handoff notes, and CMMS entries that support decision‑making.
• Reduce unnecessary escalations by accurately diagnosing mechanical vs. Coordinate with operations during breakdowns to manage expectations and maintain safe workflow.
• Serve as the go‑to resource for technical questions from junior technicians.

Safety Leadership & Culture Building

• Intervene immediately when unsafe behavior is observed and coach others toward safer habits.
• Ownership, Autonomy & Shift Leadership
• Take full ownership of shift performance, ensuring uptime meets or exceeds site targets.
• Build strong working relationships with operations, controls, and leadership teams.
• Set the tone for professionalism, reliability, and accountability within the maintenance team.
• Show initiative in addressing site‑wide issues, not just assigned tasks.
