HR Generalist - Employee Relations & Recruiting

A non‑profit organization is seeking a hands‑on HR Generalist to join the team on a temp‑to‑hire basis. This is a true generalist role supporting the full employee lifecycle and requires someone who can step in quickly, own the work, and articulate their HR experience clearly and in detail.

Serve as the primary point of contact for employee HR inquiries, policies, and best practices

Handle employee relations matters and conduct employee investigations from intake through resolution, partnering with leadership and legal as needed

Support talent acquisition efforts, including recruiting coordination, hiring, onboarding, and career fairs

Coach and advise managers on employee performance, policy interpretation, and HR best practices

Support performance management processes, including evaluations, check‑ins, and development initiatives

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws; support audits and HR reporting

Lead and support HR projects by defining goals, timelines, and deliverables

Support training initiatives related to compliance, safety, and inclusion

Perform additional HR duties as assigned

Proven experience as a true HR Generalist of at least 4 years

Strong working knowledge of California employment laws and HR practices

Ability to clearly explain HR processes and responsibilities step‑by‑step

Hands‑on experience with HRIS and ATS systems

Experience handling benefits administration, leaves, employee relations, and investigations
