The Cardiothoracic Surgery Department offers virtually every type of cardiac surgery, providing caregivers with the opportunity to work in a highly specialized and advanced clinical environment. As an RN, you will work directly with cardiothoracic surgeons and the Cardiac Pre-Op team to help ensure patients are fully cleared and prepared for surgery while delivering an exceptional patient experience.
This role serves as the final step in the pre-operative process for cardiac surgery patients. Responsibilities include reviewing patient histories, interpreting pathology reports and diagnostic results, initiating additional testing when needed, communicating pre-surgical instructions to patients, and collaborating closely with surgeons to address concerns prior to surgery. A caregiver in this position works full-time| 10-hour shifts| 7:00am5:30pm| no weekends or holidays.
Provide professional nursing care in an ambulatory setting.
Assess health status, complete nursing assessments, perform telephone triage, and establish care plans.
Initiate CPR and other emergency measures.
Notify the physician and/or Licensed Independent Provider (LIP) of abnormal findings.
Assist with specialized diagnostic procedures, therapeutic procedures, and specialized patient care equipment.
Develop, evaluate, adapt and document health education and provide it to patients and families.
Cover other nursing roles within the department.
Travel within the region to support physician clinics and surgical procedures, as needed.
Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing (Diploma, ADN or BSN program)
Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
In areas performing moderate sedation procedures and/or cardiac stress testing, must have current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) Certification within six months of hire
One year of recent experience as an RN OR LPN, Medical Assistant and/or other unlicensed clinical healthcare experience if applicant is a current Cleveland Clinic caregiver in an ambulatory setting transferring into an RN role but remaining in the same current ambulatory Cleveland Clinic setting OR a current Cleveland Clinic caregiver in a clinical role within the same specialty area transferring into an ambulatory area
Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Previous RN experience with a strong cardiac care background; Ability to review and interpret patient reports, recognize abnormal findings, and understand pathology outside normal ranges
Strong clinical judgment skills with the ability to identify abnormal readings and promptly notify the surgeon when appropriate
Experience collaborating with all members of the patient care team throughout the pre-assessment process
Nursing backgrounds include CVICU and Cardiac Stepdown units; candidates with extensive ICU and/or HVTI experience
and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible.
