Manufacturing design engineering - mechanical

Job Description Reporting directly to the Product Engineering Manager, the Product Engineer is responsible for all design engineering aspects of developing, improving, and supporting assigned Spacesaver product lines. Primary responsibilities include supporting designing and releasing of engineer-to-order (ETO) products, quality improvements, and supporting engineering aspects of existing product lines. This position will work closely with Manufacturing Engineering and Application Engineering, as well as other cross functional team members throughout the organization.

Generate design concepts using parametric solid and sheet metal modeling, and produce production drawings and specifications in accordance with relevant standards and ISO procedures, to include geometry, materials, finishes, fits, and tolerances as required to manufacture components and assemblies.
Support the Operation teams, Quality, Configuration and Manufacturing Engineering teams for both ETO and assigned product lines.
Structure and load complete bills of materials into the manufacturing ERP system.
Perform mechanical design calculations such as stress and deflection to ensure designs are safe and reliable.
Evaluate designs and manufacturing methods to ensure ETO products are cost effective.
Prototype components and assemblies to validate manufacturability, fit, and function.
Assist sales teams and distribution partners with proper application of ETO products, when applicable.
Collaboratively work in a team environment with manufacturing engineers, quality engineers, production supervisors, purchasing agents, machine programmers, and other cross functional personnel throughout all design stages to ensure designs are optimized for manufacturing.
Share expertise with, and mentor other Spacesaver groups such as sales support, manufacturing engineering, production teams, installation teams, etc.

Customer Focus
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 2-3 years of Engineering experience or an Associate’s degree in Mechanical Design Technology with 7-10 years Engineering experience
Experience with common manufacturing processes including: sheet metal fabrication, stamping, aluminum and steel welding, machining, extrusions, etc.
Experience with sheet metal fabrications and electro-mechanical systems.
Working knowledge of structural analysis techniques. Finite element analysis experience beneficial.
Creo/ProE and sheet metal experience preferred.
ERP system familiarity including structured bill of material data entry and basic navigation.
MS Outlook, Word, and Excel proficiency required. PowerPoint and Project proficiency beneficial.
Ability to manage multiple projects under time restrictions.
Travel up to 10% to obtain customer input, design intent, prototype evaluation and testing.
