Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Associate I within Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at the Rutgers Cancer Institute. Under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Research Associate I will perform research, experiments, and laboratory techniques of a specialized nature, draft written reports for inclusion in manuscripts, and contribute to grant proposals. The Research Associate I will also be responsible for guiding and training junior lab staff, graduate students, and/or technicians.
Generates, compiles and presents statistical data with appropriate conclusions, recommendations, etc. pertinent to research activity. Reviews and analyzes scientific data, scientific reports, publications and other documents pertaining to current research developments. Gives oral presentations of the research at lab meetings and journal clubs.
Assists the Principal Investigator with grant applications, annual progress reports and writing and submitting manuscripts.
Performs standard experiments in the lab: PCR; preparation of samples (murine and human) for ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq (bulk, single-cell, and spatial), RNAseq (bulk, single-cell, and spatial), and other multi-omic approaches in collaboration with the appropriate institutional core facilities. Responsible for animal husbandry, administration of medications to mice via various routes, collection of specimens, histology, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, and analysis of biomarkers.
Assists the Principal Investigator with training graduate students, Postdoctoral Associates and junior lab staff.
Contributes to writing research protocols and protocol amendments as required for IRB and IACUC approval.
Minimum Education and Experience
D. in Molecular Biology, Immunology, Cell Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Molecular Genetics, Developmental Biology, or another relevant science. Two (2) years of related research experience required.
Experience in animal (mouse) work, analytic techniques (e.g. flow cytometry, biochemical assays, immunological assays, HPLC, mass spectrometry, etc.), and assisting and/or performing molecular and cancer cell biology experiments.
Demonstrated ability to organize and maintain general laboratory functions is desired.
Must be able to maintain accurate records, follow laboratory safety guidelines and institutional policies.
Must successfully complete mandatory lab safety/shipping training courses, as required by Rutgers Cancer Institute.
Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
A working knowledge of R Studio or other bioinformatics software is a plus but not required.
Lab environment.
Exposure to animal (mouse) blood, excrement, antineoplastic drugs, and possible exposure to infectious and communicable diseases. Exposure to hazardous chemicals.
