Postdoctoral Associate – Astrophysics (Rutgers‑CCA Flatiron Research Fellow) The Rutgers University Department of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for a postdoctoral research position starting on or after July 1, 2026. The position is offered jointly with the Center for Computational Astrophysics (CCA) at the Simons Foundation Flatiron Institute in New York City. Overview The successful applicant will work at the galaxy–interstellar medium interface under the guidance of Professor Blakesley Burkhart, contributing to a research program on star formation, galaxy formation, the interstellar medium, and fluid dynamics. The candidate should have experience with large data‑sets (observational or numerical), machine learning, and numerical simulations. Other duties include mentoring graduate students, participating in observational work, attending journal clubs, and presenting at conferences. Appointment The initial appointment will be for two years at Rutgers University, followed by a third‑year appointment as a Flatiron Research Fellow at CCA. An optional additional year of extension at CCA may be awarded contingent on performance. Qualifications

• Ph.D. in astronomy or physics earned by the start date.
• Proven experience with large data‑sets, machine learning, and numerical simulations.
• Ability to develop and lead independent research projects.
• Strong communication skills and collaborative mindset.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with the CCA research environment and data archives.
• Prior experience mentoring graduate students or early‑career researchers.
