Postdoctoral Associate (Singson)

Posting Summary The Singson laboratory at the Waksman Institute of Microbiology is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to participate in studies of reproductive biology in the C. elegans model system. The candidate will contribute to our fertilization synapse, sperm activation, and sperm mitochondria dynamics projects. Experience with C. elegans genetics, reproduction, and cell biology is required. Further, experience with protein–protein interaction methods such as the split ubiquitin yeast‑two‑hybrid method and SIM microscopy training will be needed. The individual will report directly to the laboratory Principal Investigator (PI). The scope of the work is primarily as a member of the Singson Lab research time; however scientific interactions at the Waksman Institute, Department of Genetics, and other relevant units will be required as the research progresses. Responsibilities The position requires designing and carrying out experiments with the C. elegans model system as well as other experimental systems in the lab such as yeast two‑hybrid protein–protein interaction methods. The candidate should be able to work unsupervised day‑to‑day, but in consultation with the PI for long‑term goals. The candidate must professionally communicate and justify experimental approaches and results in both oral and written form. Any manuscripts for publication will be handled by the candidate. Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience: PhD or equivalent and experience with the C. elegans model system. Preferred Qualifications Skills and experience in forward and reverse genetics as well as protein–protein interaction studies. Experience with modern microscopy including the use of stereo microscopes, compound microscopes, confocal microscopy, and modern super‑resolution microscopy. Physical Demands and Work Environment The position requires being able to design and carry out experiments with the C. elegans model system and other experimental systems in the lab such as yeast two‑hybrid protein–protein interaction methods.
