Postdoctoral Associate – Rutgers Core Facility Salary: Minimum annual salary $61,805. Final salary determined by qualifications, experience, and available funds. Posting Number: 25FA0461. Position Status: Full Time. Posted: 04/28/2025. Posting Summary The researcher will conduct experiments and provide technical expertise in the Rutgers CryoEM & Nanoimaging Facility (RCNF). The RCNF serves as a university‑wide resource for imaging and three‑dimensional reconstruction of cells and biomolecules. As a member of the RCNF team reporting to the director, the researcher will interface with a variety of laboratories (intramural, extramural academic, and industrial) to apply cryo‑electron microscopy (cryoEM) techniques to fundamental questions in biology. The researcher will train and mentor students, fellows, and other scientists in cryo‑electron microscopy and perform and document cutting‑edge cryoEM experiments independently. Experiments include cryo‑transmission electron microscopy and tomography, cryo‑focused ion beam milling, correlative microscopy, vitrification, cryo‑scanning electron microscopy, and classical electron microscopy including thin‑section TEM. Responsibilities

• Conduct cryoEM experiments and maintain inventory of instruments and reagents.
• Provide technical support and training to users across departments.
• Document all experimental protocols and results.
• Collaborate with researchers to design experiments and troubleshoot.
• Maintain safety and compliance with laboratory protocols.

Qualifications Doctoral degree in a related field. At least 2 years of experience in electron microscopy. Peer‑reviewed publication(s) in the field of electron microscopy. Experience with electron microscope service, repair, and maintenance is desirable. Experience with shell scripting and insect cell expression is preferred. Proficiency with laboratory equipment: transmission electron microscopes, scanning electron microscopes, focused ion beam microscopes, optical microscopes, plunge‑freezers, high‑pressure freezers, glow dischargers, electron beam deposition instruments, centrifuges, and incubators. Physical Demands / Work Environment The researcher must be able to push/pull 230‑liter dewars, have good vision to interpret faint images, and possess manual dexterity for handling small, fragile grids under liquid nitrogen. Work is conducted primarily indoors in an office‑type environment (≈70 %) and in a chemical/biological laboratory environment (≈30 %). Benefits Medical, prescription drug, and dental coverage.
